| My dad and I are looking to plan a fishing trip in the summer time or late summer early fall. Lake of the Woods is one of the top contenders so far. I have never been there before and was just curious. Is it better to go to the Minnesota side or Ontario side of the lake? I'm assuming Ontario side might be better with all the islands scattered all over the place, but I'm sure the Minnesota side is good as well. What are some good resorts for us to consider going to if we do decide to go here?
We will be making are trip from Ohio. So not quite sure if we would drive to
Minnesota through the states or go through the state up north into Canada and work are way over.
Are there any other good multi-species ( with Muskies) lakes we should consider as well in Canada or the US?
Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks. |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | There are no Muskies on the US side other than in the NW Angle. Considering you are coming from that Far East, your best bet in my opinion would be to stay at one of the lodges out of Morson, ON. There are a ton of options for lodging.
LOTW is my favorite lake on the planet , go there and experience it

| There are a lot of great resorts in the Nestor Falls area. I go to Youngs Wilderness Camp every year and have had a lot of luck. Not a ton of huge fish but great quantities. The lodging and resort is fantastic. |

Location: Minnetonka MN | Out of the Morson launch point, you can't do any better than Tamarack Island Wilderness Lodge.

This year is our third trip and we won't miss any year in the future.
Todd and Kim and the kids are wonderful hosts.
The fishing is amazing, with Musky, Walleye, Smallmouth and Pike in abundance. The resort is on a small island, so you have tons of privacy and won't see many boats while you are out on the water. |

Location: Ames, Iowa | What about on the NW Angle side? Does anyone have suggestions for resorts there? My son and I would like to get to LOTW sometime. Is the best idea to take your own boat or rent there? |

| There is a long (~ 40 mile) rocky, gravel road to go on before you can drop your boat at the angle. Many people don't take their prized boat or they find a way they cover the bottom of their boat for the trip. At the very least you you will have to drive SLOW. There is good fishing there but it is getting more crowded too. |

Depends on the kind of boat you have. And there are only a few resorts that rent out decent boats. I would never go without mine....
Resorts....Sunset, Youngs Bay , NW Angle Outpost, Jake's, Baystore Camp |

| Really like the Nestor falls area of LOTW. Great fishing for all species and beautiful scenery. My favorite part of the lake IMO |

| Add Flag Island. I have found that they have the nicest rental boats. That is THE reason I go there. |

| Flag Island is a good option, the new owners are going to do well. It amazes me that anyone would tow there boats down the Angle road. I keep mine at my place, and still hate to drive down that road.
Youngs bay does not have rental boats.
Tamarack Island is a great location. I will be staying there a few nights throughout the summer.

Location: Hayward, WI | If you head to the Morson area, I've stayed at Mylies Place 2 years in a row now and going on the 3rd this summer. Very nice people, great prices, and I think it's a good location. I've been very happy with our stay there. |

Location: Chippewa Falls, WI | I would agree, Mylies is where we stay. The location is good for us, roads are good, cabins are nice and the price is great, IMO. I have zero complaints with Justin and the crew at Mylies. I'm not afraid to put some miles on the boat once we are there so getting around and trying new water is just a few minute boat ride for me. |

Location: BLOOMINGTON,IL | I just booked a week at Moonlite Bay Resort, directly across from Mylies. Has anyone ever stayed there?
This is our first trip to LOTW. Father son trip, extremely excited!
Any tips for learning to navigate the area. I'm bringing up our own boat. Which gps chip should I get?

| I think Most people will say the Lakemaster chip. That is my vote. |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | You can also get the Navionics Chip and download localized updates from their website for the area you are going. I used it last year and it was pretty good for the most part |

Dad and I are doing the same. We are taking my boat and I would be curious about how difficult navigation is as well |

Location: Becker MN | I use the Lakemaster chip. Navigation is not to bad as long as you understand the safe navigation lines and take your time from there. You are right on a travel route there, so will be able to move from there. A lot of good fishing near to where you are at and would not have to travel any more than you want or feel comfortable with. |

| Lots of tourists hit rocks every year that just use map chips. These chips are good, but also inaccurate. Sometimes you can be up 200 feet off. Bad things can happen. Get a 6214 map as well.
Take your time and learn an area. Morson is a great area.
Ice is starting to look a little black here at the Angle. Hoping ice is gone in a week. |

| I have used Navinoics and it works well. As stated above use a paper map as well. we drive with a paper map on our knee and use the chip together. go slow up there and don't worry about racing to the next spot |
