hey guys is the beast spool easy to get to ? i,d like two spools on a high speed=one filled and one 3/4 to change the speed . what do you think ? would it make a big enough difference on retrieve speed ? how much $$ is a spare spool ?

Try giving Abu a call and inquiring.
I've dealt with them several times regarding gear changes, etc and they're always super helpful.
Their contact info is below:

As far as swapping one out for the other its a 10 second operation. Once you remove the left side plate the spool just lifts out. If you had a spare spool it would drop in and you would close the reel. Done.

Seems to me it would be easier to just reel slower to change the speed.

its not only speed, i forgot to say its for torque ! smaller spool less speed less gear ratio with 3/4 spool =so more torque.
am i mistaken ? thats why i asked this question ! i would use full spool for rubber and 3/4 for big blades with the 6.2 ratio.

The gear ratio doesn't change with less line. Don't forget you would also have to thread the line through all the guides and re tie a leader which is a lot of time if you plan on switching back and forth during a day. I would just reel slower or get a different reel. I bet a spool is $60-80.

A complete spool for a nacl 60 costs $115.

the gear ratio doesn't physically change but the amont of lin per turn is less when less ine on a tall spool

and when its cold that rod would be on rubber and a slower reel on blades so its mostly seasonal the change between the spools !

Spool diameter determines the amount of line pick up per turn of the real handle.
Your Gear Ratio will not change with the amount of line on the spool.
So more Line on the spool, higher line pick up per turn of the reel handle, less Line on the spool, less line pick up per turn of the real handle.
Also the fuller the spool with line the reel will cast farther.
FYI if you over fill your spool the line could rub on the frame. Also a over filled spool will overrun on casts easier.

pikemaster, slower line pick up doesn't that means= easyer pulling blades= more torque ! i'd like that reel to do double duty burn blades in summer and rubber in fall .

No
The Gear Ratio does not change with a full or 1/2 full spool.
Only line pickup is affected with Sppol fullness.
I don't think you could the difference reeling.
I'm not into quantum physics but been fishing for over 50 years, I can't feel a difference.

Change the reel handle length to change the torque. It's fixed gears so spool diameter will only change ipt.

In the spring time I fill spool to the top for throwing 8s with my high speed 6.2.1 TN12 and the summer I fill about 75% to throw 10s with a deep spool it WILL reel in easier with less line.

Don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure this one out... or maybe you do. Spool capacity absolutely changes the torque! If it wouldn't make any difference it would take the same amount of energy to pull a double 10 (the same distance) at 4 mph or 400 mph and we all know that is physically impossible. One other comment for you guys that don't think it makes any difference. Although the gear ratio don't actually change, it really kinda does. Think of your spool as that final gear. And with it changing size. It changes the torque factor.

Here is my take
If U cast two of the same reels side by side, one filled with line on the spool
The other is 3 / 4 full

If turn the handles at the same speed the fuller spool reel will have more line pickup and be faster, which will make a 10 blades flare out and create more drag, where as the 3/4 filled spool reel will have less line pickup and a slower speed, not making the blades flare out more and less drag.
So if you increase the handle speed to increase line pickup to match the full spool reel
They will feel the same.

Right, the original poster is taking about under-spooling a spool to make reeling feel easier while cranking the handle at the same rate. He's not trying to match the actual bait speed. The original poster has it figured out correctly, and what he's talking about will work.

Not sure about the spool price. I'd call Abu to see about that.
