Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | I can't think of any value, a standard DI would suffice, especially if on a lake like Crab Lake...you might lose a SI transducer while looking at SI screen. Better to just have shallow. water alarm, and that might not save you either. I wonder how many lower units or even TM's Crab has taken out? There are lakes where you can go from 40' to 1' in 6'.
I took my front sonar off, because it interferred with fishing!

| I've had it for years - it works OK...but not as useful as I thought it would be.
Humminbird 360° works much better for this kind of thing.
I'm replacing my Terrova with an Ultera in a couple weeks - I am debating keeping the SI transducer on the trolling motor. |

Location: davis,IL | SI on the trolling motor is useful when looking to position yourself off certain structure without getting overly close to it. Think of a moveable version of what is on the transom without having to maneuver the boat. It takes a little getting used to using it this way, to look in front of you. Yes, 360 would work much better as you don't have to interpret exactly what your looking at, but without 360 this works. You just have to be mindful of how the transducer is mounted and the direction your pointing the trolling motor. When moving in a straight line it works the same as if mounted on the transom. |

Location: Hayward, WI | Your best imaging from SI or DI come when traveling 2-8 MPH in a relatively straight line. It will blur when turning and the transducer is prone to damage on the trolling motor unless protected. But if you know the limitations, go for it.
Further North - there is no way I have seen to put a SI ducer on an Ulterra. |

Hey jlong - Long time, no see. How's tricks? Mike Hofmann & I used his Fishing Buddy on camp boat on Katamiagamak flyin many times, we could and did sweep 360 deg looking for fish! LOL - First 360 degree side imaging in the freshwater world? A bit akward, but it worked...not quite the same as the new SI's, some of those are just crazy. As my brother in-law said one night on the water at Dogtooth catching big walleye's ( yes Sled: Big.): "Al. this should be illegal, but it sure is fun!".
