| We are going up next Saturday. How long is the wait?
Are there any times that are better then others? Or should we just drive up and straight through on Friday after work?

Location: In the slop! | It could be a nightmare, if you leave after work and get there early in the morning you will likly go right through. I have seen cars backed up for blocks going north this time of year, during the midday hours.

| Speaking from experience and so you don't get turned around at the border.
If you have ANY convictions, misdemeanors or feloney or DWI (within the last 10 years) you're taking the chance of getting turned around if you are pulled to the side and checked. When you pull into the lanes don't volunteer anything and don't make eye contact, answer the questions honestly and to the point.
I went up over st paties day and got turned around for something i did 33 years ago when i was 18 years old.
Now I'm in the process of being rehabilitated and paying my restitution to canada to the tune of $1000.00 canadian! And the offense didn'take place in canada. GOOD LUCK! mk

| OK, a couple of things to point out here.
1. It is best if you get there in the wee hours. Prior to 5:00AM, I have never waited in line in 20 years by going across in the wee hours. Get across, and then find a place to snooze for a while.
2. If you have a DUI conviction, don't lie about it. If you do, and they check, you may well be denied entry. If you admit it, and they check, this is a considered an immigration violation, and for $200 CAN, you will probably be let in. It is not automatic that you will get in, but in most cases, if you tell the truth and don't give them a hard time, you should get in. If you want to avoid the hassle at the border, you can apply for a Minister's Pardon for the year. Cost is $200 CAN. If your conviction is beyond 5 yrs, you can apply for a Rehab kit. You guessed it, cost is $200 CAN.
3. If they ask you if your crawlers are in bedding or dirt, don't answer "Yes"! hehehe
4. Be courteous, and answer directly when asked. Like it was said, don't volunteer anything.
5. Don't lie about liquor, beer, smokes. Seems that the duty goes up if you are not honest about it. Usually, if you have a case and a bottle, they'll let you pay the duty on the case, instead of the bottle. Save you some there.
6. If you are traveling with other vehicles, make sure your duty type stuff is in your vehicle. Don't volunteer that you're all traveling together.
7. Have a great time!
