Caught my first Muskie today!!

Subject: Caught my first Muskie today!!

Well I got up this morning and tried to decide what to use first. I couple of weeks ago my boy had a BPS Topknocker that got a hit from a muskie and I have one that I haven't even cast for the first time so I broke it out and figured I'd have a chance of getting a bass or a muskie. Well on my first cast of the morning I gave it 3 or 4 jerks to start walking the dog and a muskie blew up on it. Considering I was using a Shimano Curado 100b and a BPS Extreme medium weight rod he put up quite a fight, and all my equipment held up great. I'm just thankful a few weeks ago I put on 30# Tuf Line just in case I did get into a muskie so I'd have a fighting chance. No it wasn't a 50", instead it was 35" but I was quite excited and it took about 45 minutes to get the old heart slowed down:-) What a thrill and I just wanted to share with all you great people who I've looked to for help before. I didn't get a girth measurement, but would anybody have a rough guess of what an average weight would be on a 35"? Thanks all, Mark

Good going. 35" or so is where they start to do interesting things when they fight. Usual weight between 10-12 lbs.

Thanks for the comments everybody, it truly was a great experience and took quite a while to stop shaking. I tried several times last year for that first muskie and while I had a couple of hits I struck out. Its truly been an exciting day, and I had a 6 year old boy that really got a thrill out of it too.

Congrats!

You only will catch one first in your life. Regardless of the size it's still something you can't repeat. Soon you'll be looking forward to shaking for an hour after your first trophy fish. Hope you got some good pictures to show on the board.

I got a couple of pictures, now just have to get them developed. I hope they turn out good, then I'll have to figure out how to post them:-)

SV,

Great job! My first look at a musky was a 10"er on bass tackle. Since I started pursuing them I've only caught 2 in 3 years and I celebrated both with sincere thanks. Keep up the good work and get those pictures up!
