| Why do a few lakes like Bald Eagle, Rebecca, and a few others have 48" size limits and lakes like Mille Lacs, Leech, Minnetonka, etc, have 40" size limits?

| Bald Eagle and Rebecca fish are milked for their eggs to use by the DNR in the rearing ponds for stocking purposes.
I assume they wanna get eggs from big fish for the genetics, they keep the size limits higher to let em grow.

Location: Bemidji, MN- | There are several lakes in MN that are "brood stock lakes" where, as MuskyMidget said, they milk eggs from fish and rear them for transplanting to other lakes. They want the high quality eggs from the big mommas, hence the increased size limits. In the Bemidji area, Little Wolf and Plantanganet are brood stock lakes.
