Big baits, small reels?

Subject: Big baits, small reels?

Location: oswego, il		What's the smallest reel you would throw big baits with? Would you use a curado or any low profile reel? If not what reels do you guys use for bigger baits? How about a garcia 4600?

As you may already know Todd, I use a Curado with 80# Power Pro on a 7' med/hvy Lightning Rod for big spinners and twitch/crank baits. I've gotten along great with it. I'd probably have a stable of Calcutta 400's if I could afford them but I can't right now. I also use a BPS Pro Qualifier with 50# Power Pro on a 7 1/2' flippin stick for smaller spinners, jigs, and cranks. Never had a minutes trouble with it either. My big reel is a Catala 300 on a 6' BPS Graphite Series musky rod with 80# for Dawgs top water. No trouble with it either......

then there's my Zebco33, my 202, my Synergy, my..........blah, blah, blah!

Location: Eau Claire,WI		I like the 4600 for jerk baits and twitching cranks.For me the benifits are light weight,easier to control and palming the reel,(when I try it).I started my 11 year old nephew casting a topwater last weekend and that was the obvious choice for his small hands.

Location: Edina, MN		I use a Curado for bass sized spinner baits and small bucktails but for larger baits I fear it would not hold up too well. The higher speed on the low profile reels also makes them less than ideal for any bait that has a lot of water resistance and that equals harder work for me if I plan on using it all day. I would stick to a 6500 / 400 sized reel for bigger baits.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin		I have two Bass Pro small low profile 'extreme' models I use for Docs, Topwalkers, and Turds. Love 'em.
