| I've been looking for a new boat lately for under $20,000, mostly brand new boats. My main focus has been the Esox Mag console w/ 115 optimax. This would be my first boat btw. My main concern with this rig is that it would not be able to handle what Mille lacs and other rough waters could throw at it. Any comments about that? Any suggestions on different rigs? I would definately consider a used boat though.
Thanks,

Location: Stevens Point, WI | You're probably right about not being able to handle the bigger water, my Lakeland has a very similar hull design and it is not fun on rough water. Check out the Patriots, very cool boats. Crestliner has some musky friendly boats that should be less than that too.

Location: Minneapolis,Minnesota | Look at a Crestliner 1850 Fishhawk, Alumacraft Tournament Pro 185 sc (this would be my choice, very cool boat and I saw one fully rigged at the Mn. boat show for $20K on a show special), Princecraft Super Pro 178 DLX, Lund Pro V (probably have to look at used), or you can look at used fiberglass like a Tuffy esox V, Ranger 618, or Skeeter makes a nice V hull big water boat and I've seen those on www.boattrader.com for $12,000-$15,000 used.
Just a few of the top of my head....

Location: Eau Claire, WI | Esox Mag is a great boat for smaller waters, it is not a Mille Lacs, Leech, Cass lake boat unless you only fish under calm conditions or out of the big waves.
Esox Deep V series from Tuffy (1700 or 1760 tiller are great rigs), Patriot 1710 series or find a well cared for used Ranger 681 or 690. I went Tuffy to Ranger and couldn't be happier, I found a well cared for used rig at an affordable price, I now know why everything else is compared to Ranger. You can tell I'm a "glass boat" fan, you could also find some nice aluminum boats for the price range you mentioned. Lund, Princecraft, Crestliner all have models that might interest you.
Hope this helps a little.

| MJB My boat is for sale. You can see it on this site under the classified ads. It's a little more than 20,000 but not a bunch over. It's a 618vs Ranger first year production. Check it out. If you want to call me you can at 606-780-4260 | |
