Location: minocqua, wi. | yah ... lots of pike, some walleyes and a drive through a crazy road. i'd prefer fishing the day on Eagle personally. it's an ok adventure, heavy on the "ok". |

Location: The desert | Never stayed at AML, but I fished Kekekwa once while in college. It's fairly close to Eagle. My old man and I had an absolute blast. The road nearly vanishes for a few miles. The "access" (grassy drop off) was loaded with hummingbird sized mosquitos and we forgot our Off! Once we got on the water we found the muskies small, but incredibly aggressive and plentiful. We caught tons. First time I've ever had 3 fish going around the figure 8 at the same time. Once we were done for the day we made our way back to the main road where we learned that the trailer we were given by the camp had a bent axel. How did we learn this? The boat had an ever so slight wobble to it which caused the nearly new 15 horse 4 stroke Yamaha to slowly walk it's way up the transom until it jumped to its death.
Some people don't like the adventure of getting back into a bush lake, and sometimes the fish are small. I'd likely have a tough time leaving Eagle, but if getting back into the woods on a water where you will be the only person, you should do it. It's not entirely about the size or number of fish. My old man and I were fishing Wabigoon, but to this day the adventure to Kekekwa is all we talk about from that trip. |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | not sure which lakes they go to. I assume one might be Ord, which is very fun. I always enjoyed getting back into the deep woods lakes, but I always did it unguided which made it more fun |

Location: new richmond, wi. & isle, mn | I think in eleven weeks of fishing AML I only l left eagle one day. I know that guys fished stewart, fluke, Indian chain, cliff, canyon, ord and thaddeus for muskies, to name a few. Other walleye lakes I can't remember. The groups that went had a great time and I'm sure they still do.We always went to experience the good and hateful eagle has to offer. It's been way too long since I've been back.
I remember when rudy drove a group back one night on the rim of a blown trailer tire. When they got back to camp the wheel was nothing but a metal disc. Herbie had it nailed to a tree. Wonder if it's still there? |

Location: Michigan | How is the launch by AML? Do all the cabins have a nice view of the lake? It will be just me and my dad he's 78 he gets around okay but his knees give him trouble sometime. I think Julian said the only part he might have trouble with is going up the steps from the dock.
Also is there a place nearby to get snacks/pops? We will be arriving from 17 east. |

launch is fine....but it's several minutes away from the camp
most cabins have a lake view, but not all
there's not much for snacks in Vermilion Bay. If you want something on the way up, I'd get it in Dryden |

Thanks for the replies guys. I think we'll stay on Eagle.
If Dad (or you) get your butts kicked on Eagle or just need a change of scenery the 4WD lakes are not the only option. If you need a day of easy bassin, try Ely (rough ramp) and/or there are some other bass lakes right off of 17. If you want a day of fast action on the muskies, you can check out the Indian Chain or Canyon with a camp boat, and I believe they still have boat caches on Stewart and Corner among others. As I remember, the work to get on Stewart and Corner is basically walking down a hill with your gear and a gas tank for the boats. Indian and Canyon will see you needing to bring a boat, but if you don't have your own, you can take a camp boat.
I love Eagle, but the fishing isnt always the speed of a Saturday morning tv show and sometimes you just want to stick more hooks into easier to coax muskies. Definitely consider the other options. |

| It's worth the adventure just for the drive - washed out roads filled in with rocks and logs, really feels like you've gone off the ends of the Earth. Like many here, I'd prefer to stay on Eagle for the big fish opportunities, but I think you're missing out if you don't do a 4x4 trip or a fly out at least once. And there's no way I'd want to take my boat and my truck through some of that stuff, so that's the best way to do it IMO. |

On second thought, my dad may not be up for such an adventure. I'm thinking I'll just get another guided day on Eagle. |

Tremendous memories from the adventures of multiple 4WD trips out of AML with my son when he was 12-15 years old.
Now that he is approaching 30, I'd stay on eagle and look for a big girl. |

Location: Eagle Lake Vermilion Bay, Ontario | THE 4WD'S ARE BASICALLY AN ADDED DIMENSION OR ADDITION TO THE MANY EXPERIENCES OFFERED AND AVAILABLE AT AML FOR GUESTS.
MOST OF THE 4WDS ARE CATERED TO "ACTION" SENERIOS WITH FISH AVG. 34-44",THOUGH SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES DO HAVE THE SHOT AT A 45-50" FISH BUT....IT COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN,MAYBE,BUT NOT THE PLACE I WOULD GO IF THAT WAS MY GOAL. SEE A DIFF LAKE AND DIFF. EXPERIENCE,SCENERY AND WILDLIFE GOING AND COMING,ETC. ,TYPICALLY LOTS OF FOLLOWS AND HOOKUPS,PERFECT FOR KIDS AND BEGINNERS OR LESS EXPEREINCED, GREAT WAY TO GET GOING THEN..THE REAL HUNT BEGINS ON EAGLE.
TO BE HONEST THEY WERE STARTED 20+YRS AGO,MORE BEGINNING MUSKY FISHERMEN IN THE BIZ. ALSO BACK THEN EAGLE WAS A DIFF FISHERY ,BIG AVG FISH,LOWER #'S, HARDLEY SEEN FISH UNDER 40-44"SINCE THEN THE DYNAMICS OF THE LAKE HAS CHANGED,CONSIDERABLY. THE NUMBERS OF GIANTS ARE AS GOOD AS EVER IF NOT MORE BUT THE BIG CHANGE HAS BEEN IN NUMBERS,A POP. EXPLOSION HAS OCCURED IN THE LAST 20 YRS AND BEING REALIZED PARTICULARLY IN THE LAST 6-10 YRS. AND STEAMROLLING FORWARD. LOTS OF UPCOMING YR CLASSES IN THE ACTION AND ABOVE RANGE 34-48" BESIDES THE JUMBOS. WHY?HOW? I BELIEVE MORE SUCCESSFUL SPAWNING BECAUSE IN THE DROP OF SHALLOW WATER PIKE POPS. IN THE PAST 20 YRS,. IM NOT A BIOLOGIST BUT FAIRLY OBSERVANT AND THATS MY CALL,AND GLAD OF IT!!
TO BE HONEST BECAUSE OF THAT ,PLUS THE TIME OUT OF THE DAY GOING AND COMING BACK ,AND THE DAILY OPPORTUNITIES NOW ON EAGLE AT ACTION PLUS NEVER KNOWING WHAT CAST THE FISH OF A LIFE RAISES UP AND ENGULFS YOUR BAIT WITH REALISTICALLY DAILY OPPORTUNITIES THAT COULD HAPPEN,,,WELL WE DONT DO NEAR AS MANY 4WDS ANY MORE BUT IT IS STILL OFFERED AND MANY DO ONE OR TWO EVERY TRIP.
DIFF STROKES FOR DIFF FOLKS,WHATS YOURS? ANY AND ALL CAN BE DONE.

| Lake Ord is a numbers lake and we had 10 in the boat and about 25 follows. low 40s fish but really fun and very remote. Martian green blades with a black skirt buck tail and don't be afraid to throw double 8s. It's the only place I have ever been where you can get 2 or 3 fish to follow. If I go back to Eagle I would fish half my time at Ord. |
