| Alright guys, so I have to come clean, I really don't like throwing heavy baits. I just don't like beating myself up for hours on end. So what would your ideal setup for heavy baits be? I'm really trying to minimize the work, frankly. So what rod throws big, heavy baits the best? That's basically what I'm trying to figure out. TI? St. Croix Big Dawg? Shimano? Thanks for the advice guys! |

| I purchased a TI 10'6 xxh just before season closed and love it. I have mine paired up with a tranx hg and it is perfect for big rubber. |

I have not used the ti xxxh but I agree that the ti xxh is too light for a dedicated pounder rod.

Location: midwest | Dadson Custom rods (Addison IL.) build a really nice pounder rod. They have a blank rated to 16oz that has the right tip that makes casting the baits pretty easy yet enough backbone to still stick fish well. The blank they build on is light but still very durable which comes standard at 9'. |

| i have used the XXH Ti rod, the Big Dawg from St Croix and the 8'10'' xxh from Custom X and by far the Custom X is my favorite. I couldn't believe how much better the St Croix was than the TI and that goes double for the Custom X over the St Croix. Many days throwing pounders for hours w/ the CX and it was a breeze. Team it up w Tranx pg and youre good to go |

| Imo the TI XXH and the Big dawg is to soft, if its a dedicated pounder/monster Medusa rod. both can do the job but imo not the best way to go, i have both and use them both. But for pounders i prefer my Musky innovation mark lijewsky 4xH, but as it is not in production any more, i would take a look at the TI XXXH, i would love to get my hands on a predator XXH soem day to try out, but they are hard to get your hands on, on this side of the big pond.
Now i manly use my.
MI 4xh for big rubber and big jerk.
St. croix big dawg, for allround, jerkbaits and crankbaits, bigger buchtails big topwater.
St. croix sling blade for the smaller stuff, regular bulldawgs, smaller jerks, spinnerbait, and dc8 and smaller.
St. croix bass swimmbait rod, for the really small stuff, and zander jigging

Location: Land of the Musky | We lovingly call the TI XXXH the "SHARK ROD"... And that is actually where most of my sales are going for. Shark, grouper, and other big game fishing down South. Its a perfect dedicated pounder rod with very little tip flex.

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | TI makes a great rod, but for ME, I love my St. Croix Big Dawg. Had 2" extra put on the handle and love that the rod. Can not only throw a pounder but can be used for other bait applications too as needed. Great for big jakes, big cranks and can even throw a big blade (if the wind isnt in your face). |

| High speed Lexa's are great for ripping big rubber even in sub-zero conditions, I like the power handle version. Rods in my opinion are all about confidence, when launching a pounder you need to be confident that your rod (regardless of price) will not break on the cast. Personally I like the LT Big Dawg but everyone has their own preference. I work in a fishing store and have never heard of someone breaking a Big Dawg. With that said, friends of mine have run Compres and Avios for pounders and have never had issues. |

Location: Minnesota | You want the " BEST " rod. It's called the Predator . Sure it's not a cheap rod but it is the best. Team it with a Shimano Tranx HG and you will have the best pounder set up that money can buy. |

| I can't speak for the rod because the only real ponder rod I have used it the TI. I works fine for them but is all I have used. I will say for a dedicated pounder reel save some coin and get a saltist instead of the tranx. It picks up 35 inches per turn with is more then enough and is as durable as the tranx. If you are going to use it for other stuff as well the tranx cast lighter baits much better then the saltist. |
