| Hi,
considering that I live in Canada, where would be the best place to buy a bumper board without paying a fortune in shipping?
Is there a model that you would suggest that are better build not to damage the fish? Paint vs stickers, the folding bracket on the outside vs the inside.
thanks! |

| Check out the Rapala folding board or the Tyrant roll up board. Those are not "oversized" so shipping isn't as bad as the others. |

| Could probably build one for a lot cheaper. Should be very easy to do as long as there's a hardware store not too far from you. |

Location: SE Wisconsin | 2nd the build your own. Made myself one this past year. i had a piece of wood and the finish so it only cost me a couple of small hinges from the hardware store. $50-80 was to much for me to measure a fish. |

Location: Scandia MN | I made my own with garage door vinyl stop trim and the stick on ruler I got at Thorne Bros (see below) The ruler is $20 and rolled up so I'm guessing it would ship cheap. You can find the vinyl material at most home improvement stores. It's smooth and non-porous - pretty much the same stuff the $80-$90 boards are made from. Works great and does not harm the fish at all - - - -

Location: Black Creek, WI | Making your own is easy and a great place to start. Best for the fish is a board with NO hinges... which is great cause they are easier to make. Buy a 6 foot piece of 1x6 or 1x8, cut a foot off to make a 60 inch surface. Use the cut piece to make a 4 inch "bump" that can be screwed to the end of your board. Use a simple tape measure to mark off 1/2" Increments. My first board I just used a black Sharpie Pen to make the marks/lines. Put a few coats of varnish on the board to seal it up and you are in business for less than $20. If your boat can't store a 5 foot board... then hinges will be necessary. But, its a great option to get you going until you learn what YOU really need for a bump board. |

Location: Ashland WI | Here is mine.
Three 20'' sections. Many coats of white paint. A couple coats of clear.
My oldest daughter helped me with it last winter. On my birthday (in April) her card to me said "Dad, I hope you catch a muskie this year, longer than the board".
I usually keep it in my livewell. It gets wet all the time, and was still fine at the end of the year.

| Just a heads up. If say you caught the new CPR world record musky you would need to measure it on a commercial bump board no a homemade jobber for it to be recognized. I know the world records don't matter to everybody but something to keep in mind. That 80 dollar bump board could be worth the money spent. |

Location: Black Creek, WI | Couldn't your home made board be verified? That's what they do with the commercial bump boards as well. |

| Good question. I think Mr. Ramsell would have to answer that. But the official rules do state that the fish must be measured on a commercial bump board. I think verifying a homemade job could create issues. If it was me I would just spend the money on a commercial board. |

| Hi, I will see with the very few contact I have with the Ottawa Musky Chapter, if no luck, maybe it is a good idea to join the chapter for early spring. |
