Location: varies | what would you guess, with all you have invested in musky gear, boat(s) , lures, rods, etc.. is the dollar amount per musky you have caught since you have been chasing these things.
so, If you have 10k invested in ALL your fishing supplies and caught 100 muskies , your cost is $100 per fish.

| Awesome post. I would say I'm at about $100 per fish. That number has gone down recently, though. They come at a lower cost at first, then it climbs... Eventually, you can get some fish at a quality, fair price  |

Location: oswego, il | No idea. I picked 200. When you include the cost of gas, two boats, food, lodging and equipment its higher than we expect. You add buffs and embroidery into the mix it just adds up.

| I see each Musky as a gift you buy yourself. Some are big and pricey and some are little and expensive. Some you just lose and most you return with a hefty restocking fee and a smile.

| Just thinking outloud... and these are completely gross estimations. Probably on the correct order of magnitude, but that's about it for accuracy. After about 10 years of doing this:
$1200 Rods/reels
$1000 baits accumulated over the years, including those lost
$400 line, leaders, and other misc. hardware
$200 net and release tools
$5000 gas and food (say $30/trip * 15 trips/year * 10 years + one $500 trip)
About $8000 for about 80 muskies...
$100/fish. ouch
I'm not including my boat purchase and maintenance since I use that for other species and recreation more than for muskies. |

| I tend to do this based on the price of a license. Now if I bought a new boat to start adding up with one fish it's about 60k now. Next year I hope it's about 2000 without fuel and gear. |

When I'm fishing I don't want to count dollars, think about my job, worries, I just like to get lost in fishing and the outdoors. I don't want to know my cost per fish or even begin to think of it like that. |

Location: minocqua, wi. | i've invested in toys and equipment to fish and hunt in lieu of spending it on vacations and figure that i've come out even to people who go on cruises or to destination vacations each year. work gives me enough travel so vacation time to me is best spent doing things other than travel with my own toys year over year. that said, if you have an expensive boat and toys to go with it and don't get to use it much ... i'd imagine it would make you wonder.
Boats, ATV's, Sleds and all the equipment get used continuously year over year over year ... good investment in my mind. baits are another story ... less is more there IMO. |

| The only money I ever regretted spending was my first trip to Canada, and that was only because I had just signed my life away the day before buying property up in Vilas. "What the hell am I DOING?!" I thought. Then I saw Eagle lake for the first time. Then I caught a few fish. Then I saw one of those blond fish. "huh. Maybe I can put in some extra hours at work..."
I suppose I could have a million dollar house if I never discovered fishing and musky fishing. But then what would I need a house for? No truck, no boat, no room full of fishing gear.
I doubt when I am old that I'll ever wish I had spent less time fishing. |

Yes, me too, its insane and upside is my wife tolerates my muskie fishing addiction. We have a don't ask, don't tell agreement. She has her jewelry and clothing,and I fish muskies...Other species gear/lures =~$2k - muskies = it makes my brain hurt!
