How does the 580P lense compare to the 400G for clarity? I have a pair of 580G green mirror I love. I want a pair of Blue Mirror for those really sunny days though, the amber base of the green mirror is just a bit too bright for my eyes. I have a buddy who has both and I can buy one of his, but he is in MN and I can't test them out. Just Costa opinions and I am not concerned about the weight.

Yes the glass lenses are clearer than plastic however, the plastic lenses today
are very good and I doubt you will really appreciate any difference in terms of clarity.
You say weight isnt important but I for one will never go back to glass; the plastic lenses are far more comfortable and any loss in clarity is minimal and likely not discernible to most people. I dont baby my sunglasses, wear them everyday and have yet to scratch the plastic lenses that are 3 years old. I recall an event where the glasses fell off ....forgot I had perched them on top of my head and as I started to jog, they flew off on the pavement. The lens popped out and I was certain it would be cracked and scratched at the very least however, I was able to pop it back into the frame and not a scratch on it. Glass would never have survived.

I'm on my 3rd pair of 580's in 10 years or so - the first two not surviving the aforementioned and unscheduled pavement test! I was always worried about plastic scratching or less clarity but if as wall i says, they've been pretty tough, I'd recommend plastic and look to them on my next pair. Glass is indeed heavier and noticeable after a full day of wear. But they sure are a GREAT pair of glasses!

I have a pair of each 580g and 580p. In terms of clarity out of the box, no noticeable difference to me, though the plastic is much lighter as mentioned above. With that said, I've owned my 580 glass for 4 years now and there is not a scratch on them. The 580 plastic pair that I purchased last year have scratches that I can see while wearing them and I'll be sending them back for a new left lens this week. I'm not careful with my glasses as I should be, and if you are, you should be fine with either. One other thing to note is that plastic is safer, by nature, than non safety glass in terms of shatter resistance.

I have the 400g lens in both of mine. Samantha has the 580G in one pair and the 580P in another. I can't really see a difference in clarity between the two. My 400's have a few tiny scratches (not noticeable) after 10 years and one chip due to a similar pavement issue as others. Considering the abuse that these things have taken (I'm careful, but stuff happens) I would NOT go to plastic, as Samantha's 580p's have quite a few scratches already.

As far as lens color, I've found the green mirror works best for 90% of my fishing. But on trips down to FL, fishing the gulf, they are not dark enough. The blue mirror lenses are much better in that type of fishing. If you're fishing a lot of large bodies of water, I'd go with the darker lens.

I have the green mirror and that's exactly why I want the blue. My eyes have gotten very sensitive as I've gotten older and the green doesn't cut enough glare for me on cloudless days.

As mentioned above, the plastic scratches easier. Go with the glass, if the frames fit right weight is no issue.

I guess I have a strong nose, glass vs plastic is not an issue, and I wear plastics daily for driving. May just pony up and get another 580G and rest comfortably knowing the clarity will be as good as the 580G green mirror I have.
