Has anybody tent camped on Lake Vermilion? trying to plan a trip with some buddies and some of them cant afford to do a cabin so we are thinking about doing a army style tent with cots. Was hoping that somebody has sites with docks/power to charge batteries.

We do HooDoo when more than two of us (otherwise sleep in the truck). No docks that I'm aware of but does have electricity in the campground. Mostly camper-type campers there, if you can call it that. Wish there was something a little more remote

If you can get a camp site on the N. side of Hoo Doo point in the campground you may not need a dock... some of those sites have an all sand shore so you can run the boat right up onto the beach and plug it in with a long extension chord. Other wise the public launch is 250' from the campground entrance.

Thanks guys. I checked out Hoo Doo but we were hoping to fish the west side this year. Might just have to trailer over there for a day.

Not on the west side, but the new state park just past Tower Soudan might be something to look into...

You can Tent Camp with water/Elec. at Fortune Bay.... Very nice Shower facilities.
You can keep your Boat at the Marina with elct. and security for no extra charge.
In the summer months you can get a meal, drink, and Gamble until 2:00 am

Top 5 Golf course in the State.... very Nice.

I've stayed at wakemup. There was a dock but no power hookup. Limited dock space but you can beech it if needed. The campground is nothing special but I'm not picky when I'm only there to sleep. I'm guessing Steve at spring bay would allow you to park your boat at his place for a small fee to charge it if you need. I just bring two sets of batteries when staying at a location with no power. Back ups are good to have on a long trip anyhow.

Hinsdale island has campsites on it that are first come first serve. I spent 9 days there camping in 2007 whole studying for the bar exam. Studied during the day, fished mornings and evenings. I just brought an extra set of batteries.

I would bring two sets of batteries. Is there still a public boat launch at Moccasin Point on Lk Vermilion? I recall there was a small family run bar/grill that served outstanding bloody marys

The boat launch is still open and public, now owned by DNR, the bar/grill was leveled. My understanding is the DNR plans to revitalize the ramp and create a formal parking area.
