Location: Merrill, Wisconsin | I put it on a calcutta 400te. Hated it. I thought line diameter matters for musky fishing. Then I remembered I had a 12" 174lb leader infront of a ugly wood bait with shiny 4/0 hooks. It might be cool if you wanted more line on a reel, but I just don't ever need more than 75yards of braid. Just my .02 cents |

Just my .02 cents If you want more line pick-up per crank (especially at the beginning of the retrieve) then line diameter does matter. My buddy always used 100 LB PP for his pounders but he switched to 80 LB PP for more line pick-up & it helped up his catch rate. I've been thinking about using the Maxcuarto for the same reason but wanted more feedback on the line before I shelled out the $$$.

| How does line diameter affect line pick-up per crank? |
|

| In theory, spool stays "thicker" despite the same amount of line out. Thicker spool, more inches per crank.
In reality, the difference is pretty minor between 100lbs and 80 lbs test as they differ only slightly in diam.
Given all the factors potentially affecting a catch, I would hesitate to attribute a statistically relevant thumbs up to 80 lbs over 100. |

Location: Detroit River | Lumpy - 12/28/2015 2:39 PMHow does line diameter affect line pick-up per crank? With thicker line the spool has less line on it so with the same casting distance a reel with thinner line will have more line on the spool giving you more line pick-up at the beginning of the retrieve. I tested my Okuma Komodo with 100 LB PP vs 80 LB PP. I let out 90 feet of line (the length of my yard) & I cranked in 23.25" of line on the first full crank with 100 LB & I cranked in 24.75" with 80 LB. It might not seem like much of a difference but it seems the fish notice the difference sometimes. |

Couldn't you just move your hand just a little bit faster to make up the 1.5'' difference? |

Location: one foot over the line | I'm hoping to get a little more info on this line also. I'm not as concerned with pick-up as I am with strength, bleeding, knots, performance...blah, blah, blah. I have a nacl50 with regular PP80 that i can spool out on some casts, was going to go down to the 65 but perhaps the maxcuarto would be the way to go. |

Location: Walker, MN | Does anyone else have any opinions on this line other than diameter and line pickup? The big question for me is whether the 100# Maxcuatro would fish like 80# regular P.P. since it's 20% thinner. |

Thinner line does cast further than thicker line but it also backlashes more but that's more true or noticeable with the much lighter lines used for bass/walleye etc. Thinner line cuts through the water/current better & gives better action to lures but again that's more true or noticeable with bass/walleye lures etc. |

Location: Walker, MN | Yeah, but how does this new line perform OTHER THAN the diameter variables? |
