I know it's still early in the season but winternet appears weak , much like the winter weather thus far. Is there something that ties weather conditions to nonsense?

Winternet strength can be deceptive. If you could see a deleted post count, you'd have a better idea of what's going on.

Sled - the lake is still wide open. If "early ice" doesn't happen until mid January, will it be "late early ice" ?

What I'd give to have temps 20 degrees and below from November 1st thru March 31st each and every year!!! 21 degrees and above it TOO HOT! 20 and below....just riiiiiiiiiiiight.....

That ice fishing gear might get another inch of dust accumulation on it again this season....sadly.....

today is the first day of what i hope to be progress for ice formation. we'll be on foot in a reasonable time based on what i'm seeing sans any snow accumulation during the process.

i caught a local guide using the term "early ice" on a fb post ... may have to ram it down his throat. there is a reason for the term and this season is demonstrating that. i'm sure we'll have some tourista that goes through the lake because "it was safe last year" or "it's always safe by this time of year" ...

The temps might be below freezing, but with the winds last night and this morning, no ice on the lake where I live. In fact I just looked out the window and there was a muskrat swimming along. Have not seen him since late summer.

Going to be tough for the businesses up here in N. WI that depend on snowmobilers and such the week between Christmas and New Years. Last year I went for fish fry the Friday after New Years and there were over 30 sleds in the parking lot of the place we went in Sugar Camp. Wont' be happening this year.

this year is a double whamy because those years we had the "thaw" during the holidays (about 8-10 years ago) at least we had a start so some folks were still here, just had to deal with bad conditions or go further north. this year there are no conditions and it might as well be October. the ski/snowboard hills in the UP aren't even open.

minnesota folks have the mille lacs situation coupled with the rescue of 50 people off of red lake. i imagine they are facing a similar situation as n. wisco is.

No cold here, no snow. No ice in sight. This is ridiculous. Atleast the walleye bite is turning on, on the river.

One reason for a weak internet could be all the recent big fish that have been discussed recently. Some people could already be winternet weary. A big fish posted in July will bring out the winternet in some people. I suspect it will be strong after new years. I plan on scheduling the I-bash convention in Vegas at the time.

We'll be back into the 50s and 60s again here next week...Sunday the heat returns again...lots of warm rain coming too.

Haven't even moved the Snowmobiles out of Summer storage into their Winter ready positions in the garage yet. Haven't even picked up the Snowmobile trailer from Summer storage yet either. Why bother? May just get the boat back out and head back up to the lake. Wouldn't be the first time I was fishing open water New Years Eve and New Years Day...

The media blew that story up. Rescue teams arrived but everyone was able to walk off the ice. Typical media. They even had a picture of open water saying red lake is wide open and didn't realize it was a picture of LRL which is much deeper and always freezes later. Most of URL is fishable with the exception of Rogers resort.

I've been ice fishing for over two weeks well south of red but many lakes are not ready yet but that should change this weekend. There is just enough ice to keep the winternet blues away for this guy. I feel for the guys who are still playing the waiting game.

There are lots of walleyes on the south side of lotw this year. Hopefully we'll be able to head up there soon.

good catch and clarification. a friend of mine was one of the 50 and looks like they've been battling the shoreline situation daily and although there is fishing, it's limited back to walk-out and no ATV's again. point was there are not many fishable options in both states as of right now.

edit ... and it's my perception that there are more ice anglers in MN than in WI so gotta be some going stir crazy over there.

I haven't a clue what hooker is referring to but if I had to take a wild guess i would guess it has to do with public access in MN in regards to AIS. The "rich folk,my lake" crowd has been eerily silent and I would assume they will raise their ugly heads. I hope I am dead wrong.

There is a thread on another message board forum concerning walleyes that discusses the AIS situation and public accesses.
