Night Fishing in the Fall

With the lakes in Northern Wisconsin turned or turning. How do you guys feel about fishing after dark.

I was very tempted to go out last night around 9:30pm, with the warmer weather and the near full moon I was thinking a hawg may be waiting for me. But a couple of things stopped me. The 53 degree water temps, the fact that I have never caught a fish after dark on this lake (even when the conditions are prime in August) and the fact that the longer I sat in the Lazy Boy and watched Monday Night Football, the better it felt. I know you can’t catch fish from the living room, but is it even worth going out late this time of year.

I am starting to think that this night fishing thing is all hog wash. My friends and I have put in many, many, hours fishing all times of the night. The first 3 hours after sunset, 10:00pm to 2:00am, 3:00am to sunrise. If I remember right in the last three years only one fish has been caught in those time periods. We fish the right kind of lakes and the wrong kind of lakes it just doesn’t seem to matter. That is why even though I am a night owl, rarely go to bed before 12:30, 1:00 I don’t even head out anymore though. There was a time I would put my wife and kids to bed and the head to the lake for a couple hours, but my lack of success has discouraged me, especially going alone. It takes a special night to get me on the water now. Which last night almost was.

Anyway any thoughts on night fishing from now on? Has anyone had success doing it this late in the year? If so what where the conditions and what type of water where you fishing?

Thanks

Nail a Pig!

Mike
