Location: Poynette WI. | I found some really dense Styrofoam at work and was thinking about making a big popper style lure out of it. Anyone have any good ideas on how to add a through wire. I'd like to have 2 hooks. One in the back and one about a 1/3 of the way from the front. I'd like the bait to be about 6-8 inches long. If I can go with an 8 inch bait I may even add 3 hooks if able to. I find this Styrofoam all the time and seems plenty tough enough to put up with a few muskies anyways. Any ideas welcome. Thanks |

Location: Poynette WI. | I was thinking about doing that, but what would be the best way to attach the front hook then? I was also thinking about putting an egg weight or two in the body for some extra weight for casting and to help keep the body some what submerged.

Location: Moses Lake, WA | Treat the styrofoam like wood and cut your plug in half, through-wire it, and glue it back together. You can also add weights at the same time you through-wire it. |

Location: Poynette WI. | I was hoping to do it without cutting it, but so far that to me seems like the best way. Any suggestions on a good glue though. If I do cut it in half, I was thinking about running a wire through a small dowel of some sort to add some strength and keep the wire from being ripped out. Thanks for the help guys |

Location: Morgantown, WV | If you can make a decent caliber hole from the bottom (like 3/8") you can install a hook hanger for the middle hook. Drill or melt the hole. Then bring the thru wire through the hole and capture the hook hanger. Then fill the hole with epoxy or epoxy putty. This way would be a lot less work than cutting it in half. You could even throw a little weight in the bottom (water side) of the hole to weight the lure. I've never made a popper so I'm not sure where or how much weight is ideal. I'm guess you would just need a little to keep it low in the water and keep it from rolling. |

Location: Moses Lake, WA | I would try a marine epoxy since the 5 minute varieties don't tend to be waterproof. It's normally available at Ace Hardware. |

Location: Poynette WI. | Thanks again guys! The hook hanger, now I like that idea. I really did not want to cut the thing in half so that's perfect. Love this site and all the people willing to help out. Defiently a winter project but hopefully sooner than later I'll have some pictures or updates how it turns out. |

Location: Poynette WI. | Started with a 3x3x8 block of Styrofoam and just started slicing pieces off with a big knife. Wasn't really sure what shape I was going for, but by time I was done it turned out somewhat like a reefhawg body. Next I'll be adding the through wire and playing around with some wieghts. I also used some fine sand paper and a lighter to smooth things out but these pictures are before that. It's not perfect but will be kinda cool if it actually works.

| Looks quite large and very buoyant. Is it open cell type foam?
Looks like it would be difficult to dig into the water and do a lot of skipping?. Soak a piece in water to see if it holds water maybe. Pretty cool if it works. |

Location: Poynette WI. | It's a pretty good size bait and I would say it's open cell type foam but very dense and seems like it would hold up to some abuse. I plan on tying some weights on it to see how it sits in the water. It's the first one I've ever made so my expectations are whatever happens happens. I'm building it for the fun of it and would he cool if it did work out or caught a fish. |
