Location: West Virginia | I just got my first Crane Bait, living in WV I figured I needed to support the home team. On first inspection, the hooks seem pretty light wire. Has anyone upgraded the hooks or are the factory hooks ok? |

Location: Milwaukee | I've caught up to a 46" on the 205 with the original hooks, never a problem. I'm always afraid it will affect the action. |

| Lightweight hooks----But I think that was meant to be so the bait rises quickly---I like the lightweight hooks for twitching those things over the weeds---I have some with I think they were 10X strong hooks added to them for some extra weight when I want to just cast and straight retrieve the lure----Cranes have caught me so many fish over the years--- 1 of my all time favorite baits... |

Location: Wisconsin | They do seem light, but as esox said, thats part of the lures action-super quick rise. I havent lost a fish because a hook straightening, but I never caught a 50 on a crane either. They are super twitch baits, that is for sure. Love em |

Location: north central wisconsin | If you're fishing big fish waters, definitely beef them up. I use 774's in the same size, or up 2 sizes on the business hook up front, one size in back, leaving center hook off, depending upon desired action. They all work a bit differently, so toy with what you have to obtain or retain your desired action. I prefer a certain rise and leveling of my lure which also determines the dive/vibration on the next rip/pull.
In terms of Bill(Crane) using the lighter hooks, my friend Luke once asked him why he used such light hooks on his Cranes. He said 'here in Viginia there are a lot of trees overhanging the creeks/rivers. If I get snagged up, I can just pull them out, straightening the hooks, fixing them once in hand'. I was very amused and satisfied by this answer, solving my 2 decade old question regarding the hooks used. |
