| hello guys ,i would like to get your opinions on a rod for top water baits mostly walk the dog types up to 7 onces, and maybe glide baits up to same weights. i have a big dawg that handles that weights and some others but the problem is the handle hits my foreharm all the time ! a smaller handle would be better but throwing that weight is easyer with a long handle !
any input appreciated thanks! |

| I have 9 and 9 1/2 foot rods for everything else,,,but I still use 6,,6"3 or at the most a 6"6 jerk bait rod for gliders,dive rise and especially wtd baits
With the shorter rods you have a lot more wider angle to manipulate them and you also have a shorter handle so you don't have to tuck it up under your armpit.I can steer Wtd baits through Lilly pads an reeds with the lighter six foot rods that respond to a light tap,,,you.don't see an orchestra leader using a 8 ft wand to keep the musician's in sync.
The great news is that people believe there's no place for these anymore "their not in style" so you can pick these up at swap meets in the $20 to $40 range I snag a $20 bargain or 2 every off season at the swaps. |

| Personally not a fan of long rods for WTD baits. At the start of the season I picked up a new 7' Heavy Compre and it has been the perfect rod for me. |

| thanks guys good info here and the shorter rods do have shorter handles in most cases. not too many swapmeets around here but while serching i found tackle industries has a 7 xh that may be good ! anyone try or have that one ? |

| Stick the but under your arm pit and the reel closer to your body...that way i like to use the long rods for every casting method... This gives you very good support when you have to set the hook, the but pushes into your body and takes of a lot of strain from you're wrist. |

| the 7 f rod has a 13 inch full grip and is on special at $100. and their handles are thicker than the norm. ive read a lot of good things from this site on that brand and might try it ! |

| found a lt 69 XHF almost new for 5/8 retail and will try that ! now have to wait for spring ! thanks guys |
