Here's the first of the new Beaverturds.
After some R&D last year, we beefed it up a little, increased the front hook size and added an Envirotex top coat (Thanks Dirk and Bill).
Got the flaptail to 'kickout' in several directions, instead of just churning up behind the bait. This thing has a great side to side wobble when the tail kicks out. Reminds me of some of my old dance moves.
My fellow bull and I will be throwing the hell out of them during the upcoming season.
Only made 8 of them because I ran out of bodies and time.
We'll keep you posted if we produce.

Thanks Jim.
The "pretty" ones are still drying in the basement. I'll add a couple more pics in a couple of days.
What a difference working with that Envirotex.
I have to stay away from them for a while or I'll be leaving fingerprints and smudges.
Being obsessive compulsive is NOT a good trait for a luremaker.

that jailbird looks awesome!!! If you want to part with one of the 8 because you feel 7 is enough I would be happy to take one off your hands.
good luck with them.

Beav, looks great, will you be bringing it up north next weekend? How did your other topwater with the prop blade you posted a pic of last year work out?

Worked just OK. Flat calm conditions were almost a necessity. The prop would move up and down with the chop like I wanted it to, but it didn't cause enough commotion. So I put some flaptails on some of them and took the props off. Worked out a way to get the flaptail to flip out side to side and cause the bait to rock side to side. Found out the top coat wasn't durable enough either. Too many chips and taking on water. Went through bottles of clear nail polish for repair jobs. So, I got some bigger blanks, increased the hook size in front, adjusted the flaptail so that I wouldn't lose the wobble and put Envirotex on it. So far tank testing looks very good. Unpredictable kick out of the flaptail and still a good side to side wobble when it happens. I think the beefed up version will work out better in more conditions. Still have a couple prop type ones in the box for those glass calm mornings and evenings. It just kinda buzzes across the surface. Not even a legal, but it did catch fish.....bass, northern....got higher hopes for Beaverturd '03. If not, there's always next year.

Beav

Looks awesome. Does it push a lot of water ahead of the bait like to old turds with the flat face did. Always thought that was a key...

Here's some more. And yes, they do push some water. Tried to keep them "pug nosed".
