So guys,

I got a good job offer out in minot ND, i would be moving from the madison wi area. I am just wondering if there is any good musky opportunities within an hour drive of there. also any duck hunting info would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks!!

No worries on the duck/pheasant part of the question, more than enough to shoot. As for Musky there's New Johns lake about an hour away towards Bismark that has some musky (apparently where the state record is from). There's a few other lakes around there that have musky, google should help you out. Otherwise you can start snagging paddle fish out of the Missouri River. There are some farm ponds out there that hold some monster pike and more walleye and perch than you can count.

[EDIT] by some farm ponds I mean a LOT

I wouldn't hold your breath on ND skies. There are some in new johns. But after the record or was caught in o6? They have gotten scarce but good news is the state and people are rising interest in muskies. But as of now I know there is one family in Minot who fishes Detroit lakes often guessing about 4.5 hours away. There is a year round bass lake out that way though mid winter water being 50* is a good way to ditch cabin fever.

The duck and pheasant hunting out there is awesome. You're far enough from the boarder that the non-resident pressure isn't too bad which is a real problem in the eastern part of the state. You can kill plenty of ducks and geese on water but I'd suggest investing in a field spread if you don't have one. Feel free to pm me if you want tips on gear or tactics for field hunting. I'm no help on the muskies in nd but western mn in the detroit lakes area has some great fisheries that hold some tankers.

oh how time flies.. I spent a little over a year not far from Bismark, ND soon after college in 99' ..as few wanted to manage stores in ND -HA! I jumped at the chance! Unbelievable waterfowl hunting and I caught dozen's of 38-43" pike ... lots of room to spread outdoors up there
