Does anyone know why reef hawgs don't come with splitrings on the hook hangers? I bought a few used and they had splitrings but the ones on the shelf don't.

Reef hawgs don't come with split rings. If you have to cut a hook or want to change them to a different size, then you would have to split ring them on. Maybe the split rings add unwanted weight and that is why they don't use them.

Great question. Does it hamper the action in anyway. I love reef hawgs but the hooks get stuck and it has a negative effect on the action. I was thinking about putting split rings on mine to eliminate this.

I don't know anything but split rings action on my 8" is great. To me no splitrings would give fish leverage and make working the bait out of a fish a pain. If I buy a new one I think I would cut the hooks and put splitrings on. But I wanted to see what folks here do.

There are two schools of thought. Some people feel that split rings change the action of the Reef Hawg and if you need to replace hooks you need to pull the cotter pin that is used for the hook hangers. I've tried both ways and haven't really found adding split rings affected the action much at all. Look at it this way, if you add split rings and the bait doesn't do what it's supposed to do, take 'em off and go the old school route with the cotter pin hook hangers holding the hooks.
