Location: Illinoise | Was out tonight (5/22). Didn't see any fish. Water temps were hovering around the mid sixties. Catherine and Channel were relatively clear, but, Marie looked like chocolate milk.
Anyone else been out lately?

Location: Illinois-Indiana | Phil,
I was out on Wednesday but fished from around 12:30 until 7:00.
We saw 7 fish and boated an 18" largemouth, raised one on an Undertaker, the rest came on bucktails. |

Were the fish showing themselves on green bucktails by any chance? I know last spring the only tails I had a chance of catching/seeing fish on were green. Just wondering if the pattern was sticking through to this year.

Location: Illinois-Indiana | Phil,
I raised fish on three different bucktails and none of them green. One red and white, one custom in a crappie pattern, one black. Funny, I threw all colors and the only ones they were chasing were silver blades, could have just been a coincedence.
Talk to you later,

Location: Illinoise | Jerk,
try using a glide bait in 5-10 feet of water with weeds present, if that doesn't work, try a spinnerbait. This is working in the northern part of the chain. Good Luck. |

Location: Chicago, IL | Fished today (Thur. 6/5) from 9-6.
Missed two fish early on bucktails.
Lost 1 and caught 2 trolling. The biggest one trolling was a fat 39".
Water temps ranged from 67-69.
Anyone else out?
Also...The fish had a tag that had too much algae to read, but did have a fin clipped. Any telling who stocked the fish? DNR? Muskies Inc.?

Location: Elgin ,IL | Phil, Moved 5 fish on Sunday with 2 in the 40"+ range on Magic Makers and DDD's. We fished the 1st breakline setting up shallow & casting deep. Haven't seen much this spring shallow. Lot's of lookers and no takers. We had temps in the 64 degree range on Sunday. The trolling bite is starting now. Unfortunately I'll be on Cave Run this weekend fishing with Gregg Thomas. Figures, the bite is getting better on the Chain and I'll be in KY! let me know how you do this weekend! :) |

Hmm. I know for a fact I didn't see the boat. I tell you what, if there is cloud cover the fish are really showing themselves casting, once the sun comes up I lose my confidence in casting. I'm really suprised I didn't spot your boat. How are the little ones? Once they start crawling you could always tie a line to their diapers and wait for the tug...lol Hope they are doing great.

Location: Illinois | Fished Thursday in the P.M. trolled and had a nice fish on but came unbuttoned. Didn't try casting for long and didn't raise a fish. Caught a nice fish Sunday trolling(44). Marie had an algae bloom working. I enjoyed the courtesy of other trollers out there. Many times we were on the same line and plenty of room was given by all. |

I was the younger guy behind the wheel in the 620. No, don't worry I don't mind sharing paths at all. I mean, it is the Chain...lol There is no such thing as getting in someones way.
That bloom was pretty thick, actually made things quite tricky on the eyes while casting.

Mcdermits has been sold and is under new management the new name is
"Thirsty Turtle" Launch pricing has not changed $10.00 for boats and $15.00 for jet Skis, The launch is still very shallow, I had to back my truck up all the way to the rear tires just to float the boat

I wasn't out on Saturday, that probably why, but on Thursday I thought I saw your boat but couldn't tell from a distance.
I was out yesterday (Mon 6/9). Saw NADDA! I think the water got hit with some bad weather the night before. Everything was just shut down, I couldn't see a fish if my life depended on it. Anyone else see anything?

Location: Chicago, IL | Out today (6/17. Tues), was pretty warm. Water temps maxed out at 79. Didn't see a fish casting. Trolled and got a 36 & 31.5. Almost ended up with a double while fighting the 36. Lil' ernies were definately the ON bait. Also heard of a boat getting a mid 40's early in the morning trolling.
Was also out last thursday, had a good day as far as seeing fish and hooking fish, saw 4 and lost two nice ones, one over 40, at the boat. One fell to a botched net job. Was a good day gone bad. Thats all I have to say about that. LOL

Dont you mean (6/17 Tues)? I was actually given an afternoon pass by the keeper of the babies to get out last Sunday afternoon. I was able to get out for 3 hours on the water and dueled the boats/jet skiers. We raised 5 fish, two of which swung and never hooked up. One was seriously retarded and completely whiffed. All fish were seen on Jerkos. Hair and top saw nada. Sounds like the water temps have jumped up. We had 67-69 degree temps. |

I'm heading to Vermilion with the Witchdoctor, Big Goomba, Franky Bottle-o-cherries and their respective families on the 5th of July. I'm counting the days for several reasons, most important of which is to REDEEM myself for an unbelievably pathetic start to this season. I may trade my boat for one of those glass tubs like Phils so I can to trolling becuase this casting thing I'm doing clearly isn't working for me. |

Location: Chicago, IL | This just in.......I got a call from Bob at Barnacle Bob's today and he had some crazy news.
Heard of a unreal day on the chain this sunday...Unfortunately I was not there....although the information is from a reliable source i can't guarantee its 100% accurate.
1)Sean Birmingham guided a 9 fish day.<-This is accurate
2)A 49.5 was caught and released. <-This is accurate
3)I guess a weekend warrior in a Barnacle Bob's boat caught a 52 and kept the fish...(The info on the 52 is sketchy, but I will find out more details on tuesday)
Joe, you don't need a glass tub like mine, you need a Barnacle Bob's rental for the big hawgs. LOL

Location: Chicago, IL | Ok, here is the low down on the news I posted earlier....
1) Sean Birmingham did not have a 9 fish day, it was a 10 fish day.
2) The 49.5 caught, was caught out of Sean's boat (what a day!).
3) The supposive 52 sounded more like some angler keeping a fish and needed it to sound over 48 so not a reliable feed there.
4) Was another boat that boated a 48 & 42 on sunday also.
Was out today (6/24 Tues.) Man was it hot! Fished for 4 hours and got a 32.5 trolling. Water temps were in the upper 80's. Talked to a couple other boats and nobody had luck. The fish seemed to be in open water more than off the breaklines. The fish we got came from 17ft.

Location: Chicago, IL | Was out (7/2 Wed.) from 8-12:30. Got 2 quick rips trolling and boated a 35.5 & 34.5. The two fish came within about ten minutes of each other. The hotter the sun got the more traffic there was so called it an early day.
Anyone else out lately?

Location: Lindenhurst, Illinois | Anybody going to be out on the Chain tomorrow (Friday 7/4)? I haven't had much success over the last few weeks - casting only. Have raised a ton of fish but can't get them to go. I have seen more big fish on the Chain this year than I have seen the previous two years combined, but can't catch'em
If you see a black/white Crestliner 1750 Fishawk with a 90 Honda stop by and say hi, we can compare notes. |

Location: Illinois-Indiana | Dave,
Try burning bucktails, it's been working for me, I think it's more of a reaction strike they don't have time to think they just hit it.
The slow moving jerk baits have been moving a ton of fish but they won't commit. |

Location: Illinois | Went out today at prime time (noon). The trolling bite has been better for me when there is a ton of boat traffic. Trolling on a Saturday afternoon is like playing frogger. Cha cha cha cha cha....cha. Picked up two mid thirties trolling Marie. Bring on the jet skies, the rougher the better. |

Location: Illinois | Went out last night and trolled Marie to no avail. Moved into Bluff and caught a nice pike (thought I had hit paydirt and the spots were a letdown.) Went back and casted Marie and nada. Strong northeast wind and cool. The water clarity is typical for this time of year(bad). As I was getting off the water I briefly spoke to a guy with a beautiful Ranger and he said he did well casting. No specifics but I didn't want to pester him as he was in and out in a hurry. The boat traffic was very manageable. Floating weeds were not as evident and less of a problem. |

Location: Lindenhurst, Illinois | Was out Saturday and Sunday (8/2-8/3). What a mad house. I had a ski boat zip between me and the shore on Channel, I easily could have cast into their boat. That's what I love about the chain. Saw one Fish Saturday and boated a 36" on Sunday on Channel with one other follow. |

Location: Lindenhurst, Illinois | I think it was the same guy. He almost got me twice -- once Saturday and once Sunday. I had not seen this guy until this weekend so he must be a new comer. If I get buzzed again I will get his ID #'s and report him. I literally could have smacked his kid in the forehead with a lure without a wind up. What a Jackass!!!
The interesting thing is last weekend (July 26th) boats are flying all over the place and the Cops come up and are questioning me if I have all the appropriate gear (fire extinguisher, throwable etc). I wanted to tell them where to go but you know where that gets you.

Location: Algonquin, ILL | That Jerk flew by so fast and close I could not get his number, really I could have reached out and touched his boat, needless to say my boat got tossed around quite a bit from his wake fortunatly no damage and no one got hurt. It won't be long and all the butt heads will be gone leaving us to fish in peace and quiet. My brother in law who does not fish even made the comment that he observed " The Bigger the Boat, The Bigger the Boobs, The bigger the Idiot"
