Took my little brother out tonight on the river near my home(he musky fishes maybe 2-3 times per year and hasn't seen one in about 5 years). We decided to fish near some shallow rocks where the smallies and Shiners were flashing around. About the 10th cast I hooked a very heavy fish on a Topraider at the end of the cast. It measured 45"(finally!!!), and was very heavy for a river fish. I let my brother release it and hold it in the water(he was really pumped). It was not only my biggest musky of the year(I netted 5 other bigger ones for partners, but could not break 45), but my brother got to be there. I think, he's finnally getting the picture, as he asked to go out again tommorrow night. We never got along at all groing up, but now that we're both grown(he's 21, I'm 27), we see eye to eye more(kinda wierd).
Just wanted to tell others about it, and maybe we'll see more brothers, sisters, fathers and sons, take part in this wonderful sport together. I have to say I've been pretty selfish in the past, and only fished with certain partners(those that don't detract from my fishing), or alone. I'm changing my tune, and think i have gained a new partner!

Jason,

Great Story. Congrats on the 45"...still many weeks left in the season. I had the jinx early this year as well. Netting 53",49" for partners. I broke the ssize streak two weeks ago with a 44 and a 46". Hope to have at least one 50" but season end. Good luck to you and your brother.

Great job Jason, glad to see things are still popping in your neck of the woods.

Hey Jamie there is nothing wrong with just netting the big pigs. It often takes teamwork in order to get them in the boat. If you dont pop a fifty this year you should still feel proud.

Jason,

Yeah I guess but you have to hate it when you are driving the boat. Oh well. It is team work in the end. On a good note fish size has been increasing the past few weeks. How are things in your neck of the woods. The water has reaaly started to cool down up here and the fish have headed for the depths. Good luck to you

Jeff, love to go hunting Wed. and I saw your spy last night. I turned so he could see it better. Muskyj, temps are in the high 50's here, but with the warm temps the past couple days, the surface has actually heated, promoting a nice shallow bite again(central WI).
