Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Clearly there is a kinda serious bait fad going on with Dadsons...thinking back, here's a few from the past that I CAN think of. What am I missing?
-bull dawgs (long ago, but it was there)
-HRs (i fed into this one big time, still have like 10)
-TR Twitchers
-DDDs

Location: Contrarian Island | not sure bulldawgs are a fad...they catch a sh*t ton of fish...look in any guides boat in MN and 95% of their baits are dawgs (or dussas) and double blades... but I know what you mean...
Weagle fad maybe? who didn't get sick of seeing or hearing "weagle baby"

Wasnt saying the baits dont work, but that they become the RAGE where people are fighting and scrounging to find them at a certain point.
Weagles were definitely a fad, and a super annoying one...but again, they do work. |

| Lake X topwaters are a big fad right now. And, with Hammernick pimping the Mega Barfighter so much on Facebook right now, I'm thinking they are about to be next in line. |

Location: Contrarian Island | agreed, yah I guess I think of a fad as more of a bait that everyone has to have, then throws a lot / all the time, then peeters out and you don't hear much about anymore or guys don't throw... guys obvioulsy still throw dawgs all the time... Hughes Rivers ..? definite fad, heck I think I had 15 at one time and now own ...zero. same with weagles..sure they work but guys aren't throwing them nearly as much as back when it was the IT lure... Barfighters...yah, definitely the up and coming fad... any time good fishermen throw 1 lure most of the day or time, well, it's gonna get bit...duh. |

| Fad: an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived and without basis in the object's qualities; a craze.
Bulldawg, medussas, DDD's in multiple colors are staples in most boats.
I agree a weagle is more of a fad than the other's mentioned. |

| Oldest one I can think of was the Amma Bama craze back in the late 80's (?). It was THE jerkbait you had to have. I also recall Rocketman Terminators, Llungen Jerkos and Squirkos, Poes Jackpot and Awaker... the list goes on... |

And the list goes on...
I like walking around the musky show swap meets. You can tell what was hot last year and the year before, because there's 3-4 of them for sale on every table. And they are still there at the end of the night because everyone else already has a few.
I don't get the hype, though. All lures work if you fish with them enough. |

Quite a few years ago I had a Barbie Doll sans clothes that I wired through and hid a treble in the hair. I kept this rigged on a spare rod and when I would see boat approach that looked like they were coming over to talk i would start throwing it. Could often get a reaction from the other boat (reinforced the idea that I was nuts and should be given a wide berth ). Had it struck once but failed to get hooks in the fish but shows muskies are not really fussy at times.

Terrible question, Beaver Dam tip ups are the only ones to use... they have a better IPT and require less maintenance annually. |

Location: oswego, il | Alot of the baits mentions above were never fads. Bulldawgs were a regional fad on lake Webster. During the daylight hours there was 15lbs of bulldawg flying through the air at any given time. These days you might be lucky to see 4 rigs at the ramp unless there is a bass tournament.
Mantas were a fad. HR's(I have a bunch), tr twitchers have a bunch too. |

At MN state fair, hotdogs are probably the most productive bait for big girls. |

Try putting a pink tail on it. |
