Location: Eastern Ontario | Don't overlook wire, but day in day out I most often use 80 or 100 braid. If you watch the videos where Saric is fishing with Mike Lazarus a lot of his fish are on wire. For pounding rocks either wire line or single strand wire leader.

Location: Chicago, IL | I run 30-40 lb clear Berkeley Big Game mono on trolling rods and line counter reels. May require more line out to achieve extreme depths but I mostly troll relatively shallow and prefer the shock absorbing qualities of mono. That being said, if I were to troll super deep, braid would be a must and wire would then come into play also. |

Location: oswego, il | I am running 80lb braid. I used to run mono, it worked fine, I have seen no reason to change back. |

Location: Land of the Musky | Braid braid braid... 100lb here. Snapped 80lb one winter and lost a $30 Pounder. Went to 100lb after that and no need to worry anymore...

Location: Ohio | I would do 30lb mono. Just my preference. |

| Mono is more forgiving as it stretches and absorbs shock. You will lose more fish to thrown hooks with braid until you get use to its properties and adjust the drag/technique accordingly. Each has its place and followers.
Try and find a rod with nothing faster than a moderate action for trolling especially with braid. |

Location: Canada | We are trolling using 60lb big game mono or I think it's 80lb suffix mono that my boat partner is using on a couple of his trolling rods. |

| It really is dependent on your trolling technique and body of water. First off, if you require any depth of 15+ feet, I would definitely recommend 80 lb braid. Braid is going to obviously be stronger and achieve greater depths with less line out (a perchbait gets down 15'-16' on 55' of 80# powerpro, and about 80' of 40# big game). Also if you're structure trolling or scrubbing rocks, braid all the way with a heavy wire leader.
For shallower trolling where 15' or less is the desired depth, I do like the 40# big game. I have used it for two years now trolling on LSC for all of my board rods. It absorbs shock and stays in the offshore red clips much better. For that particular lake, all of my boat rods are 80# and the board rods are 40#. On my home waters in Ohio where we get baits close to the bottom or break lines (also not using big boards), I use 80 and double the line in the offshore yellow boards. |
