Location: Southern Ontario | Hi guys. I'm looking to outfit my 2015 alumacraft competitor 165 tiller/70hp with a minn kota talon 12 ft or two. My question is does anyone think that having one or two talons mounted on the Transom would be stern heavy as I am already running the boat from the rear? I like the option to lock on a location when working in shallower water.
Thanks |

I LOVE my Talon but it definitely adds weight. Also, I was surprised at how loud it is when it deploys and sometimes you gets some squeaking from flex in the housing. But it has definitely put more fish (bass) in the boat for me this year. The Powerpole is lighter and I've only used it once but it was noticeably quieter. Think if I'd have to do it again I would research the 10' Powerpole since I never even considered it when shopping. And the MK sandwich and tilt brackets are well over $200 each. I did buy my 12' Talon from Tackle Warehouse when they had a 20% sale and saved $400. |

Location: Southern Ontario | Hi Paul,
I have noticed the power pole as an option but I worry that I will not have any room for the pumps or hydraulic tank. That's what I liked about the talon just run the wiring . They both have there pros and cons. Do you not find a use for the talon with musky fishing? |

Hi Paul,

While I love hooking into one, I'm not a musky guy. I am a big water smallmouth guy and the boats and trolling motors on this forum closely resemble what I like so that is why I come here. But I love using the Talon and locking me in on a spot. Also great for the launch too. |

Location: Otsego, MN | For Muskie fishing it works great if your sneaking around an inside edge. Other things like docking your boat are made easy as well. I as well fish a lot more bass and use it all the time. Two powerpoles or Talons would be ideal if you plan on using them a lot. I plan on adding another 12 footer next spring. There are deals to be had out there like mentioned above. |

Location: MN | Not to mention that with the tilt bracket will fold down and rest on the back deck of the boat when going in/out of a garage or through a low clearance spot, like under a low bridge. |

| 50# isn't much. And 1 held my 2090 warrior as much as I could handle water coming over the transom and hitting me at the bow. 2 would be nice to hold the boat into the wind or to prevent it from spinning down wind. Loved it at the ramp and yes I spiked it on hook up and held me in place after releasing the fish my next 20 casts showed me 8 more fish. If I had blown a hundred yards who knows where I would have got back on track. Sold that boat am trying 2 10' blades with drift paddles to fish over 20' with more control. |

Location: Grafton, WI | I had one 10' talon on my boat, and just added a second. As others stated, it's extra weight, but not too much. Adding one (or two) would compare to adding an additional battery - depending on the size.
The benefits are truly amazing. My new favorite is launching the boat myself and not having to leave the truck.
I maybe lost 2mph, and don't notice a difference in how the boat sits in the water. |

| I have a 16 foot tiller as well and considered the Talon... but I ended up opting for the iPilot Link with Spot lock instead. It holds me in place relatively well, in either shallow water or deeper than 10 feet, and doesn't add weight or noise in the back of the boat. For me, it was the right decision. |

Why choose? Get both. I have a Talon and I'm going to get either the Xi5 or a Terrova. The Talon is great for applications other than fishing- at the launch, eating, retying, and just anchoring without having to worry about drifting into anything.

| I also ran ipilot link and would much rather use the anchor over that propeller to hold me. So much quiter. No vibrations. Better choice. And an update on my experience with the power pole blades. I don't have the drift paddles yet but was still able to slow my drift by .5 mph with both down and at the ramp two held the boat off the dock just like I dreamt even in a 22mph cross wind. |

| I would like to have both but given the choice of one or the other - iPilot hands down. |
