I have seen muskie sponning once and it was quite instering two males were trying to push the feamale up to shore and she would turn around and bite the male between the fin and the tail then he would swim in a 30 foot circle and come right back to the female. Has anyone ever seen this ? please shair your obsevations.

"Spoon"ing- the act of slipping in behind the unsuspecting female and "dishing"!

"Spawn"ing- what results from "spoon"ing sucessfully!

note: the older females (like the one described in this post) are not as likely to fall for this old trick. (much like the human version)!

sponning is what the female muskies prefer after the spawn. About 62 water temps from my log books. If the male muskie refuses to spon, the female then gets upset and chews on the males a$$.

Around here, the process is called "Spunging", a daily ritual that leaves me battered, bruised and bitten; it involves me wife at home and boss at work, and they both attempt to empty me daily to get their way. I too am pushed into the "shallows", and rarely have time to relax on the nest. My only recourse is to thrash and spew in a vain attempt to reach a deeper sanctuary, yet to no avail; both have left their "marks", and as a result, permanent scarring has occured. I gotta get out of this place, if it's the last thing I ever do! Dudes there's a better life, for me and me...

An actual serious answer:

Keith tells me he sees lots of bite marks on both males and females during the spawn. it seems they are actually pretty tough on each other, and  can get pretty badly beat up during the process.

I guess so, yes.  OUCH!!! One thing for sure, if I saw a 40# Muskie headed my way with her teeth showing, and she was headed for my tail, there would BE no 30' circle.
