Which is a better all around reel?? I'm talking about throwing everything from a mepps 5 to a magnum bulldawg. I'm really wondering which is a better alll around reel and the pro's and cons of both!

Thanks

I have a conquest (a lot like the TE) and a D, and like them both the lot, but prefer my conquest.
But buth would do a fine job with what you are looking for

You're going to get a lot of plain old subjective opinion on this. Here's mine. I have and use both, though I eventually put the 5.6 gears in my 400D for a little faster reel.
Pros 400D vs TE:
Feels smoother to me
Casts better/further
Narrower spool more confortable to palm
Paddle handle a bit more comfortable

Pros of 400TE vs D:
A bit more power, but very close
More drag (though the D can be improved slightly)
Easier to work on, parts less expensive

I prefer the 400TE.
The D just feels wrong when palming. The spool release bar is sticking out and your palm is always hitting it.
I also had the gears strip out on it almost immediately. I was very disappointed when I bought it.
Otherwise it's smooth as butter and ultra light. Drag feels pretty good.
I gave the reel to the wife... She likes it.

400TE
I don't own one, but have used them from friends. Frankly, I think it's the best reel I've ever used.
Power, smooth, cast friendly... I don't know why they got rid of it.

How did you manage that? I would guess engaged the reel a few times mid-cast... definitely the reel's fault. Lol.

The TE and the D are both great. I actually prefer the fit of the D for palming. The Levelwind dis-engaging on the cast is the biggest difference to me. Otherwise they are both smooth but the D is on another level in terms of that.

I own and use both... I recently took off the D and put one of my TEs back on. The TE is a better reel. Just my opinion.

Not once was the reel engaged mid cast.
I suspect it is the spool button getting partially depressed during the retrieve. I can't image palming it with big fall gloves...

The TE with the power handle is slightly better for 10's over the course of a 10hr day. I would let price determine it for me. A used 400D is cheaper than a 400te.

If you're switching from big baits to small I'll take the TE hands down very easy to adjust the spool breaks . The D needs a small screw driver take reel apart to change spool breaks both reels are nice but I would take the TE over the D

Sounds like the TE is just a workhorse and a great all around reel!

I actually prefer my D for all around. Both are outstanding reels. I use my TE for blades since it has more power. D seems more smooth and fits better in palm since its a little smaller in the 400.

Love the TE's. Not a fan of the 400d, have a hard time palming it and getting my big ol' thumb to lay across the spool when casting.
Would it be safe to say that the 400TE and 400 Conquest are the same tool? I know the Conquest will be smoother, but will they cast the same, pull blades, etc
