| Al visited me last weekend. For two days I got him up by 5:00am each morning, we were on the water by 6:00am and we fished 10-12 hours. On the second day, about 2:00 or so, he nailed a fatty while speed retrieving a Zam. For the next 4 hours he threw and reeled like a demon. So on that day, after twelve solid hours of thrashing the water, we ate a big meal and then he had to drive home, in the dark, hauling a boat, for 4-5 more hours.
That dude is lots tougher than he looks. |

Location: oswego, il | Al is a great guy that is for sure. I ran inot him at a restaurant up north once, took a trip to hayward and I am sure he fished his boot off then as well. Ranger thanks for keeping his drought buried.;-) |

| All I did was net his fish for him. Well, I guess I did share some tips on....
The Red Squirrel Presentation Technique
and
Ranger's Theory of the Origin and Future of the Human Race
but I don't think this information contributed to his fishing success.
Oh, I also revealed my plans to teach muskies to eat people as a way to limit fishing pressure on my favorite lakes, and I gave Al a special lure so he can participate in the training program. (But he forgot to bring the lure each day, the dunderhead.)
Anyway, Al let me drive the boat wherever I wanted, he gave me free Zalts and Zams, never complained an iota about anything, and he bought dinner each day, so he's aces in my book.

| That's because Al's origins began on the east coast! All those years of being brutalized by nor'easters has enabled him to weather lifes' storms, and he is the last one sitting on the dock of the bay; you also find him all along the watch tower... |

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Hey- Don't let Ranger fool you- He's a hard core Muskie Nut also- He thrashed just as much water, in fact he fished the day before I got there (Thursday) and got his first of the season- a nice fat 37". He's a great net man! He netted my 44" on Cass Lake last Sept. Last Friday he netted a 39.5" for me and on Saturday he netted a 41" for me. So Jason -actually the free lures were a form of bribe to get him to put me on fish and keep him focused on getting my fish in the net + not wildly knocking the hooks out w/ the net before the fish was in the net. I think my strategy worked pretty well! If you have chance to fish with Ranger-don't miss the opportunity, he's a great boat partner. Also I was using a custom tied "Ranger" 80# flourocarbon leader with a Duke Bulldog snap on the Zam's. I think Ranger's flouro leaders were a big factor in the clear water we were fishing. Ranger's lake X,Y, Z are fun- just be prepared for fishing a lot of heavy wood. They are nothing more than 200-300 acre muskie cribs. Not exactly the place for light tackle- you definitely have to control the fish. As for the lures- I got the 39.5" while twitching a Zam in the CamoPikie (suspending) @ ~ 7:00PM (The camera clock is ~20 min fast). The 41" was Sat @ ~12:30PM on a speed cranked Zam in the "new" blue holoform #9 (suspending). Rangers got both in his tackle box! ;-) Both Zams had the new VMC red hooks (barbless of course). I replaced the heavy salt water hooks to slow the lure sink rate. Al Warner http://www.zaltnad.com

| Nice Fish, Al!
Gotta love that UP Green.
Ranger, it's looking good for June 6-7-8. Might want to drive over Thursday the 5th, so we can hit it Friday (if you can..)
Still working out the details of boat registration, but that should be taken care of over Memorial Weekend, one way or another.
Anyone else joining us? I am working on bringing Iowa Jon, aka Musky Chef. He might need to take Fri-Sat off work, like I am...
Can't wait, not many muskies in Waupaca, at least none I have seen so far this season.
Cheers,
Papa Joe |

You're going to Waupaca the weekend of the Minnesota opener?
I'll be on Mille Lacs or maybe Wabedo or maybe Cass? Who knows? I'll be out with Brian (Morriscode).

| First thing I noticed is the lack of foliage on the surrounding terrain; where's the leaves man!??? It's been like a jungle here for nigh 2 daggone months. Has it been tht cold up that way? Near constant rain here for a week off/on... |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | As the opener approaches this weekend here just two hours west of Ranger and his Yooper Muskie Brigade, we have had two nights of hard frost, JUST as the leaves were beginning to show. The muskies here are still wearing their winter coats. |

| PJ - C'mon over on Thursday, I already have Friday off work. If you make it early enough, we can go out Thursday afternoon/evening, too. J-Ion is most welcome!!
Sponge - Steve is right, the leaves are just beginning to pop. Mowed our lawn for the first time yesterday. First tick the other day, too (yech). |
