What To Do Small Muskies

So I fished a tournament this weekend and ended up boating 4 fish. 37.25, 28, 26, 22. Ill take 4 fish in two days anytime but fish needed to be 34 or bigger to score. so what do yall do when you get into a mess of smaller fish? Keep fishing the same areas hoping for a 34+ or go look for new water? All fish were caught in 3 ft or less with weeds and cabbage almost to the surface. Tried fishing deeper 10-15 ft range but never seen a fish. Water temps were 68-70 degrees.

Since all of your action was in shallow water and weeds, the first thing I would do is move off of the weed bed and hit the deeper edges. Then I would work and flat areas near the weed beds. Then look for timber+ rock areas. Then go back to the weeds (and dig right into the slop).

Big thing with tournament fishing is trusting your first, second third, forth, and fifth spots (and more). Have a plan of attack (either through pre-fishing or simply just making a plan), so that you are not wasting time thinking "What should i do next".

Since you were having action, you could also work the same weed areas but slightly change up your lures and presentation.

Trust your electronics, trust your knowledge of the lake. Trust your partner.

Also, congrats on getting one on the board. Getting skunked is not that much fun!

Ok that is pretty much what I tried just wanted to make sure I had the right plan. I was reeling a shallow invader slow just over the tops of the slop just enough so it was making a little contact and a mid 40's fish came out and grabbed it about 10 yards from the boat set the hook and made a few cranks and he spit the lure so I was confident that there were bigger fish holding up in the shallows. It was hard to convince myself to leave the slop and try deep after that bigger fish tried to eat. I didn't see a single other boat the whole weekend trying to fish the slop so I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. But all in all I boated 4 skis lost two that were hooked and boated a pike so I was more than satisfied with my effort.

How did everyone else do? Did they catch small fish? If not, they did what you were hoping what did they do?

One more.thing, without bump board pics of the fish you caught, they don't exist!:-)

51 people boated 78 fish over 34. Seemed like there were quite a few in the 40's don't have exact #'s.

well I don't own a camera or a bump board so the 45 muskies ive boated this year so far must just be a figment of my imagination. I measure my fish by sticking 100 dollar bills end to end down the fish then just count how many and estimate down to the nearest 1/4 inch.

Do you know what the other teams did to catch those fish? Not knowing the lake, that would be where I would find my information.

I caught 77 last year,no bump board pics so they would be meaningless here.

I did like Tone Suggested and fished the 20'+ Breaks. Boated a 41" and a 47". I saw several smaller ones when I tried shallow (Figuring post frontal) and nothing followed deeper, but they did hit..
