| So decided to try out st. Croix for my next rod. Wondering what people are using to throw almost everything. I have a tackle industries 9 ft xxh ive been using for almost everything and its just too stiff in my opinion. Right now im thinking a legend or elite in the 8-8'6 in heavy. |

| No way I would use anything but a 9' or bigger unless your using tiny stuff. If you dont like the xxh why not a xh. |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Big nasty with 18.5" handle (extended). I can throw bass cranks to mag dawgs and everything in between. Bucktails up to 12's are no issue with rod loading up. |

| Had Thorne build me a 9' 6" big nasty, 19" handle.
Throws everything I use, small 8 bucktails, top raiders, pounders. Doesn't matter. Best bucktail rod I've ever touched.
Not looking to spend that kind of money, Okuma 9'3" is about the equivalent at $120. Just tip heavy.

| I cant get a 9ft rod in the cab of my truck. Think im going to go with the sling blade. |

If your looking for a long rod with transportation issues try the TI telescopic rods. We have them in 9' lengths and in about 2 weeks we will have the new 96, 10 and 106 telescopic rods. They all reduce in length by 18" for transportation and storage.
PS-If your looking for an all around rod the XH would be my choice. Throws small Suicks up to Pounders. If your looking for an all around rod but want to throw medium to larger size baits go with the XXH. The XXH will still throw a small bucktail or Suick but you just have to be more mindful of your casting drag and adjust as needed for lighter lures.
Check the specs out here:

Location: Minnesota | I had the opportunity to jump in some one's else's boat this weekend . I have 10 different set ups design for specific baits. I bought 2 a 9 foot predator heavy and a 9 foot 8 inch predator X heavy. I only through 3 baits started out with a fat basterd with the X heavy then Double 8s with the heavy then back to the X heavy with a shallow raider. The shallow Raider raider I started getting fallows so that's what I stuck with. If I had to pick one rod for every thing the X heavy predator would be the one .can use it on pounders all the way down to small baits. It might not be the best for the light baits but it can do it.
PS. I have a Tranx HG on the X heavy rod. |

| I have two 40% off coupons for St. Croix that is the only reason im going St. Croix on this one. Sounds like the Sling Blade might be a little soft maybe ill go with the Big Dawg. Any body here have or used both the Sling Blade and Big Dawg? |

| You probably find the big dawg to stiff. Can you keep the big nasty in the boat? |
|
|
|
| yea I could but not locked up. I often stop at bars after fishing for a few soda's and don't like leaving gear out to be borrowed. I guess I could just not stop at the bar. Since im dropping 200 bucks I want this thing to be perfect. I might just have to drive over to park falls so I can take a look at both. |

| I have a sling blade and did that based on room in truck. I have since added a big nasty and 9' dadson custom rod. It does create a storage issue, but I am happier on the water. By the way the sling blade is great for about everything, you might just notice a bit softer tip on figure 8's. Certainly still works well. |

Location: St Paul, Minnesota | If you have to get one rod I'd seriously consider the Big Nasty and figure out how to store it.
It will throw small Mepps Bucktails all the way up to Mag Bulldawgs, though The Mag Dawgs feel a bit much.

| I have been testing the prototype 10'6" xh and xxh, and the 10' xh and xxh telescopic rods from Tackle Industries. I have tried to break them, and have not succeeded. I have used the other rods that have been talked about here, and they are all nice rods. I use the 10'6" xh almost exclusively now, and throwing Cannonball Jrs for distance is pretty fun. Easy for me on figure 8"s and I can cast the farthest I ever have. If 10'6" is too long for you James has 10', 9'6", and the 9'. The 9' telescopic xh is what I have used tournament fishing, and what I use for my clients for the past 5 years. You have already been using the xxh from TI for just about everything, so get the 9' TI xh telescopic and between the 2 you will be able to throw everything, as well as being able to store them. As long as your xxh is telescopic as well. The TI telescopics all shorten down a foot and a half from extended length. |

| Appreciate all the info on the TI rods guys but in this instance St. Croix is the only manufacturer im looking at. Now leaning towards the Nasty. |

| I have the Blade Dawg and Nasty. The Dawg gets very little use these days. If you can find a way to store it get the Nasty if not get the Sling blade. |

| Nasty is by far the way to go. I have used and built on all 3 blanks ( sling blade, nasty , big dawg). I have two big nasty rods in my boat at all times...one with a hg tranx and one with a pg tranx. |

| what ild like to know is how did you get the 40% off coupons who cares who thinks what rod is better buy both sell one and basically pay for the other i think we all need a coupon like that |

| It was a prize on the table at a musky tournament I fished last weekend. I was surprised to see it there when I got to go up for 30 something place. |

Location: Smith Creek | I run a Big Dawg and Sling Blade most of the time. I'd probably take the Sling Blade if I could only use one of the 2.
Nasty would be the best choice to do it all, maybe custom to your length. A nasty with 3" trimmed off the butt will be more versatile than the Dawg or Sling blade. |

| No votes for 9' 3-8 oz Elite? With 40% coupon, you'd save more money on elite series |

Location: Smith Creek | Yeah, that LEM90HF is insanely nice to fish with. Cast for a few hours with the Dawg, then using the LEM is like fishing with a walleye rod. |
|
|
|
| I just noticed the elite comes in 8'6" 3-8 so that wouldn't be a bad way to go. |

| The 9' Elite is only .2 oz lighter then the split grip Nasty so no real weight advantage there. The action and guides are different. In the shorter rods the weight savings is much more significant . |

| With your coupon is it like a extra $100 or so for the elite? |
|
|
|
| currently I have 6 rods and I think the most expensive was the TI at 140.00. Hard to believe im going to spend this much for a rod but I have a feeling I will be more than happy. Now just have to figure out what reel, thinking the Toro S. |

| Big Nasty is off the table due to its length. Went with an Legend Elite in 8'6" H and the Big Dawg since it was good for 2 items. |

| Yep I understand, But to me it seems like why Buy a Longer rod and pay more money and have the rod sticking out a foot or more behind your underarms? If you were to line up the Triggers next to each other on a flat surface Your 9 foot rod and your 8 foot rod are almost the same size... I could see the benefit during a figure 8 and casting ... If I were to get a longer rod it would be longer from the trigger to the tip not from the reel Backwards towards the Butt...But that's just me |

Dude , those are two of the best ever musky rods ever made. I have not had the privalege of fishing one those rods, to expensive. I'm almost embarrassed to say I use Premiers and Mojos. But seeing the post is about St. Croix rods,I'll just say to the average joe's, the Premier 8'06", 2-6 oz. rod is my most versatile. Kdawg |

| Ill admit Kdawg that ive only been chasing these slimy barsetards for 5 years and have always been against the expensive stuff. Swore up and down that that stuff isn't needed to catch a fish. As I stated above I had a few discounts for st. Croix and figured misewell try em out. My initial feeling is I wont be able to tell the difference between the performance of my Scheels rods and TI rods but we will see. |
