| Just looking for some verification...
What is the actual weight, of a 1oz Pearsons Grinder?
(as if you were to put the bait on a scale)
Is it actually 1oz, or heavier?

| The only reason I ask this is because Thorne Bros lists the weight of a 1oz Grinder as being 1.9oz.
And this confuses me. |

Ok, so is the grinder really 1.9oz total? That's almost a full ounce extra.
Also, it seems the 2oz grinder is listed as 2.3oz. only .3oz extra, where as the 1oz is .9oz extra.
I don't get it

| Don't overthink it, by one of each, and figure out what weight you prefer for the situation you face.
I mainly use the ECT in 1.5 oz, but they are more like 2 oz with blades, skirt and trailer. |

Umm....Id rather get this straight before I spend $15 on a spinnerbait.
I need to be able to tell the difference between total weight and head weight. Cause see, the Rad Dogs I have are listed as 1.75oz, and when I put them on a food scale, they measure at 1.7oz total. Pretty close. But listing the head weight only is messing me up. |

Call the manufacturer...
Two baits with exact same weights aren't necessarily going to run the same anyway. Different blades, different skirts, etc. are going to change the way the bait runs in the water.

Well that would be consistent. Sizes are 1oz, 2oz, 3oz, etc. I suspect the 2.6s you have there are the 2oz, and the 2.055 is the 1oz. That would be closer to Thorne Bros 1.9oz.
But geez, a 1oz bait weighing nearly 2oz. That's almost a big enough difference to be false advertising. |

When I order bass spinnerbaits I know what sizes I want by the head weight. I guess it would also be false advertising if they say its a 6 inch bait, but it over 7 inches if you included the rear hook. |

Location: North Central IL USA | Interesting. They should probably be more clear with the weights on these. Either say it's a 1 ounce jig head and you'll assume it's more with the wire and blades, or list it as a 1.6 ounce lure or whatever the total weight is. |

Well the way I see it, if the actual weights are off by a large margin, then that could be problematic when making sure the baits you choose are a good casting fit for your rod.
With bass spinnerbaits, Id imagine its les of a problem because the baits are much lighter, proportionally, so the extra hardware is small/light enough that it really wouldn't contribute too much extra weight to the bait itself. |

I let the bait and how I use it tell me which one I need to use, care less about the actual stock weight. |

Pretty much any musky rod that can cast a 1.9 oz bait will throw one that's an ounce, 1.6, 2, 2.3, 2.9...
Different spinnerbaits will run different based on overall weight AND component types. You are really just going to have to try a couple weights to see what you prefer for what situations. Or use your best judgement and buy the one you predict will work best for you overall. We've all bought baits that didn't do quite what we hoped. It's part of the process.
I don't think any lawsuits or false advertising claims need to be filed yet. |
