What do you feel is the weakest link between you and your muskie once you have her buttoned up tight on your favorite bait?

What do you do to make sure that link doesn't fail?

I am the weakest link. Basically I work out and eat the right food. Doesn't help but at least I try.;-)

As far as tackle goes, I would have to say the snap or the split ring on your leader or lure. Have weakened snaps and had to replace them and seen split rings open up. Need to keep an eye on them.

I was just thinking about this exact question earlier today. I would say either the snap or the crimp on the leader. (assuming it's not tied)

Let's be honest...I no doubt will speak for MANY...the weakest link is the area between the top of our head and base of our neck. So often we attempt to blame a leader, a snap, a split ring, a knot, a fishing partner, the weather, the water temperature, a rod too stiff, a rod not stiff enough, something that happened in our childhood, etc. We must face the fact that, as Todd said, WE are the weak link on the boat, and the sooner peeps can look at themselves and say "I'm the idiot", the sooner they will be able to relax and enjoy themselves, no matter what happens when a fish is lost. May we no longer scream out in agony and indignation when a pisces finds its way back to whence it came from; let us admit dumberness in a most humble way, and blame not our losses on inanimate objects! At the end of each day, call a friend and tell them just how stupid we are, and that even though a fish was lost, we will refuse to blame anything but ourselves. Grab a stranger and hug him; explain what happened, and allow him to share in your stupidity, no doubt he will admire your openess and honesty, and perhaps even share his stupidity w/ others! Before you know it, peeps everywhere will be telling each other how stupid they are, and the world will be a better place. Come on people now, smile on your brother! It's time we get together and love one another, right now...RIGHT NOW!

I'd also have to agree with Todd, it's "Todd" that's the weakest link! (But he sure looks buff since he started working out!) lol

I don't have a weakest link, I use improved clinch knots on my 80 lb Power Pro that never fail. I use leaders made from the strongest components as well as changing splitrings and hooks on lures that need it. Todd may be his weakest link but I lose a very small number of fish once hooked like a couple a year. But clients are a different story I know of at least 6 fish over 50 inches lost close to the boat by clients last year, thats almost 1 in 3.

I would have to say how the fish is fought and how it is netted.

When I get a fish by the boat I tell it where to go, then I pull it into the net. You can't just hang on to the rod and let the fish do what she wants at boat side, fish will be lost. I pull them around and into the net, when she and the netter are ready.
