Location: Madtown, WI | Well I wanted to see how the first day of the tourney on the Madison Chain went. Couldn't find info anywhere. So I called Christy's last night (headquarters). They said THREE fish were caught....36 the biggest. OUCH! I am hitting the water today...but that is not promising. However, the sun is out today!
Not sure how many boats are in the tourney...
Weeds are looking AWESOME right now....curious to see how the do today!

| Hey Cory,
How did you do out on the Madison chain today? I will be posting the results soon but the final muskie tally was not indicative of the muskie activity. Most of the anglers had their chances at muskies and some teams had 15 or more muskie chasing their lures each day. Unfortunately most of the muskies were just looking or hitting baits with closed mouths. There was so much muskie action I have to think in a couple or a few days, the muskies are really going to start hitting on the Madison Chain and numbers of fish and some big fish are going to get their photos takin.
Have a good season,
Tom McInnis |

Location: Eastern Ontario | Maybe the chain muskies are smart and would rather have their pictures taken next week without the ride in a small box. |

| You think the MadTown fish are smarter than Pewaukee fish, Richard? I doubt it. You see, Madtown is in Dane County, which is commonly referred to as "120 Square miles, surrounded by Reality" I think those fish have just heard too much tree-hugging, liberal jibberish, seen too many Linda McCartney commercials, and support PETA!
As far as transport goes, plenty of fish were caught at Pewaukee, and from what I saw, EVERY fish released at the dock swam away very strong. 60 entrants in that tourney didn't have a problem with it being a transport tourney. I would have fished it, but had a mixup with my partner. Like I said in a previous thread, if you don't agree with transport tourneys, don't fish them. Come up with solid facts that it is killing fish, and maybe I'll change my stance.
Oh, wait! I think we should ban all muskie fishing with hooks. You see, I happen to be able to PROVE that some muskies are killed as a result of fishing for them with lures that have hooks. |

Location: Madtown, WI | SLOW SLOW SLOW!
I fished for a few hours late Sunday afternoon. Went to monona, should have went to Waubesa. Clouds had really moved in a cooled things down. Water temps ranged from 56-59. Spent and hour and a half farting around with the underwater camera....MAN are they a fun tool. Saw some tasty suckers swimming in the weeds. Also found a hot spot for smallies!
Heard 4 legals were caught in the tourney....DEFINATELY need a couple of sunny warm days to get the fish moving.
The one fish I did move was where I had the warmest water.

Location: Madison, WI | ONLY 4 fish caught in the WMT and none by my wife and I . 361/4, 36, 34 3/4 and 34. One person did catch a 55" sturgeon on Monona after a 30min battle. Saturday, My wife and I worked shallow and deep to find a pattern for hot fish on Monona. Found the best movers in 3-8fow. We moved 15 fish. 1 fish, had to be a female around 40", we move her on the same spot 5 times in 4 hours. She was real easy to spot as she had a huge white lip on her left side. Sunday, Worked a couple different areas then Saturday. Moved 10 fish before 12:00. Went back to the spot of the female 40, and she came back 3 more times but wouldn't take. The largest fish (guessing 45-48), came screaming in after my bulldawg and then hit the breaks about 8 feet from the boat. Looked at me and the left. Maybe next time out I can catch something. 0 for the year has got to break soon. Peter |

Location: Eastern Ontario | Shep, the only thing I have to say is " only in Wisconsin ". No where else would you see transport tourneys, gut hooked suckers, jugging extreamly small size limits ect ect. I don't need to be reminded because Tom as told us all that transport is much better for the fish then imediate release. To bad all of us in Canada don't have livewells big enough to transport all of our fish as it would make our fisheries so much better. Anyways why would anyone care what a Cannuck some 900 miles away has to say, seems like Tom has yet to answer my questions from a month ago. Many big releases (relatively) this year. |

| Ah, Richard, you'd all have to design/get new boats with 70"+ livewells for them slobs out by you!
Let me ask you one question. Did you get to vote for the increased size limits out there? My guess is NO. I believe the MNR decides those matters, and it is not a bunch of political hoo-ha, like it is here. You are right, Only in WI.
Post more pic of those fish you get out there. I love seeing them. Have a great year. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | Hey Shep we may not get to vote but muskie anglers were involved in more then one way to increase our limits. We as members of Muskies Canada work hand in hand with the MNR on a number of projects every single year as well as helping with some financing of those same projects. Now a lot of us entered logs year after year that the MNR used to determine the new size limits as well as work done by guys like Dr. Casselman who works with clethrums donated by anglers. We took part in many telemetry projects that helped the MNR in many ways from shoreline protection to locating spawning areas and much more. When North West Ontario got their 54 inch limits a few years ago made us out east mad and we worked really hard to finally get our own 54 inch limits this year.
So my answer would be no we don't get to vote, thank god as it can be anyone angler or not. As well the people that help the MNR or pushed for the size limits increase did it because they wanted too and naturaly those were all muskie anglers. I also have a photo album on this site with not one fish under 50 inches on there. I will be posting more as they come in this year. I just found out I won the June Muskies Inc. photo contest with the picture of Zach's 53 inch fish caught at sunset. |

| Richard,
You missed my point. You should be thankful you DON'T have a system that allows you to vote. Many people and orgs here in WI work with our DNR to try to make things better. Then we have the useless spring hearings, and the Conservation Congress, and the Legislature, and the Govenor, and the courts. All seem to get involved one way or another, and none of them really know what is good. All they know is politics.
3 years ago, the people of WI voted overwhelmingly in favor of a Dove hunt. The vote was something like 85 gazillion to 6 in favor of the hunt. Last I checked, we are still not hunting Doves here. Some tree hugging judge heard a case, and stopped the hunt. My point is, they should leave this stuff to the professionals, the DNR. Also, people in this state are under the false impression that a favorable vote at the spring hearings is binding. Watch how long it takes to get the size limit raised on the Madison Chain, which did receive a moajority in favot this spring.
Eric, maybe, but you're the wipe. Consider yourself flushed, you anon putz! |

Location: Eastern Ontario | I didn't miss your point entirely LOL What is good here is once the MNR says we need this or that the politicians know that they are the experts and don't bother oposing them. Especialy if it means more tourist dollars coming into the province. No the MNR are not pecfect and many folks opose what they do at times but at least if they mess up they are there to take the blame and correct their errors ASAP. I wish you guys all the luck in the world getting those higher limits. |

Location: Pewaukee, WI | Transport Vs Boatside--come on how many times is this going to come up...........I've been in both and have seen more problems with some guy waiting for the damn judge boat......I only heard one fish biting it last year and that was NOT from the transport it was a nasty deep hooking... which happens...........
Prob be a better idea to stick together and promote the sport based on FACTS and not personal assumptions |
