show some pictures of your old war horses, the beaten, the bruised, the warriors who spend their lives on deck and in the water and not inside the confines of a tackle box. this is an old bobbie hall-of-famer that earned the nickname Captain One Eye ... later Sharkie cuz he had a good sized tooth stuck in the top like a shark fin.

R.I.P. Pinky. She's a 2  year old Gerrytail responsible for over 20 fish. She caught her last fish last weekend, a 50, and now the blades are inconsistent no matter the amount of tweaking. I'll reshaft it but she won't be the same.

Not old. It was put into service early July and has accounted for most of my fish since commissioned. Will go in for repairs this winter.

There's maybe 80 fish on these lures, and a few of my best days ever.
The 10" Big Game was destroyed/repaired in consecutive weekends by a few nasty Chip fatties a few weeks after I had a 5 fish afternoon with it. Then a bad attitude Chip fish sent it to it's final resting place. I miss that mojo.
The Cowgirl ("Money") was just that for me.
Also a little Buchertail and a Manta & Grandma that got a lot of fish.
I love warriors. I love the pics people have shared. Please add some of yours.
Good stuff.
-Jon

I had a Gerry girls double 9s that had about 30 fish on it that was lost to the musky gods on LOTW this past August... there was a moment of silence in the boat after that...

and don't reshaft that Gerry..if the blades still spin I bet you catch more fish on it
sometimes the best ones are the ones out of wack..trust me on that.

The blades don't spin anymore, it thinks it's a showgirl now. I think one of the clevises got mangled and I can't tweak it back. I felt like I was lost when I couldn't get the bait to work anymore, all confidence was gone when I couldn't use pinky anymore.  Luckily I have a couple more Gerry girls creeping up on that 20 fish mark - just getting broke in

I give you, 'The Black Knight'...

If you could inspect him closely, you'd see there was hardly anywhere he hasn't been deeply cut, punctured, and melted. Not unlike The Hound on The Game Of Thrones for those familiar with that epic series. Thankfully, he survived this battle with a monster last week. Unfortunately, my Predator didn't.

Here are a couple, along with the fish that did them in...

First one is "Binky", an old Gerry's Girl that I've had forever. The blades used to be chrome plated. If you look closely, you can see a blade about to fall off. It runs okay until the blades bend, which is maybe a cast or two.

Second one is an old Flasher that used to have one red blade and one hammered nickel blade. 49.5" on this one, many many pike, and this last fish that managed to remove the nickel blade.

Both of these have been part of my starting lineup for many years. Sad to see them go, but they're pretty well finished. They have served me well, and have earned a permanent place on the wall of fame. But fishing won't be the same without them.

I can't post a pic of it because it's in in a vault at a heavily fortified bank right now...but... the best big fish lure in my boat since about 2008 is a particular bucktail a good friend gave to me to use... he had 2 53" on it, and 5 others over 50... then gave it to me..what was he thinking! I got a 53 and 50 on it in one night in about 5 casts. Another friend got a 50" on it with me... and then when a friend came to MN for the first time, I had him use it the 1st night and he got his pb a 51.75"... this past week I took it out of the vault and let another friend use it.. he got a 52.25" after about 2 hrs of using it... so 12 over 50" on one bucktail... that is a War Horse...it is so mangled and nasty looking...guys are paying 200 for a Dadson that have zero 50s... what should I price it at? lol.
needless to say my friend that gave it to me tries to steal it back every chance he gets!

The fact that he shared it with you and you share it with other friends, instead of hoarding it to yourself has got to be giving it some good karma.

fun to remember "special baits" - I had one old perch DDD that basically was all white, after the first 20 fish, not sure how many she produced but over 40 muskies for sure, replaced hooks at least a dozen times, big fish liked it.. 7 over 48" up to 52.5" ... June 27th 2012 she took her final swim.. and now rests on the bottom of LOTW lodged firmly in a rock (2 types of lure retrieve failed the rescue mission) ..think I shed a tear when the line finally broke.
