| I am going to make my own sucker rigs for fall fishing. just wondering what would be the best wire to use. I have looked at the bledding wire, 49 strand wire and surfstrand single strand wire. Just wondering what would work the best or doesn't it really matter which one use. also what size(pound) of wire to use. also should the wire be coated or uncoated. |

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | The high seas 49 strand 90# shark cable is what I prefer. Make sure you get the right double barrel crimps and the right tool for the crimps. |

Location: Contrarian Island | I have had 90 lb break...I now use 49 strand 175 lb.... |

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Holy $&!%... You broke the 90# shark cable? Was it a well used rig? |

Location: Contrarian Island | I take that back, I broke 7 strand 90 #... I went to al 175 lb 49 strand, the stuff is not very thick and I don't think the fish mind ..

Location: Contrarian Island | very true, I think for WI rigs I use 135 seven strand ...but for MN rigs I use the 175 49 strand |

| Are you guys using coated or non? I see the coated getting torn up and only good for a fish or 2. |

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | The AFW 49 strand shark cable isn't available coated. Coated wire is not good IMO for two reasons; 1. it doesn't let you see if there are broken wire strands, 2. it provides a barrier between the wire and crimp that may cause it to slip. |

| Has anyone tried Flouro rigs? |
|
|
|
Location: Contrarian Island | I use fluoro for the leader section above the 49 strand..but I would not recommend using fluoro for the section that ends up in the muskies mouth.... |

| Ya....I see the concern, but look at the pike rigs like bigtooth and such. Don't hear about any problems with those. |

Location: Contrarian Island | it only takes one fish to bite thru fluoro to ruin your day/trip... I wouldn't do it... the fish don't seem to care about chomping down on a sucker with 49 strand on it... why take the chance?! |
