| Just wondering what people have fabricated for trolling out of bass boats. I was thinking of bolting some pipe flanges to the deck with a few pipes as uprights and then a cross pipe, then attach rod holders. I'm just not too crazy about bolting pipe flanges to the rear deck of the boat. Anyone else have any ideas? |

| Standard rails and use extensions for the rod holders. |

| Are standard rails easy to install? |

| You can get them that either takes screws which would be easiest or bolt them which would be to much work if even possible on your bass boat. You want to be able to tilt the rods which are the easiest to do on a rail apposed to a fixed mount.

Or you can get some 24" rails for cheaper on amazon, etc. if your going to troll two rods per side.

| Berts track systems are great too and open up lots of options that are the simplest set up and tear down. Email me at [email protected] if you want to see what I run. I run a mast system with triple rod trees on each side |

| I've got some rails on the back of my bass boat. They work great with Scotty rod holders. No extensions needed.
I also have some rod holders that mount right over the tie up cleat. They work with almost any rod holder system, and you can still use the cleat.
With this setup and I can easily troll 8 rods if I have to. But normally I use them when soaking suckers and they all work great. |

Would you care to share some pictures of the over cleat rod holders? I did some googlin and it looks like there are multiple styles. Also did your boat come with rails or did you install them? I don't have access to the underside of my gunnel to attach a rail. Thanks for the reply. |

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Here's a couple of photo's of my setup for Esox Maniac (17'6" 1985 Skeeter SF150). I also have a trolling mast that fits into front pedestal and Bay of Quinte double planar boards that I made myself. Also a Down Easter rod holder mounted on each side rail, they are behind the downrigger trolling setup that sits on the side rails and is secured with 2 J-bolts on each side. Mount & removal is less than 5 minutes.
The rod holder to the left of the windshield is my prop wash rod holder, that one holds a 10" Ugly Stik 2pc Saltwater Surf Caster with large Shimano Saltwater spinning reel spooled w/65lb powerpro. There are two saltwater adjustable outrigger roller release clips on each side of the rear deck that the line gets clipped into so that the line is at deck level off either side of the motor. Its a automatic hook set - when fish hits that rod -the rod loads up and then release trips letting the rod snap straight and then set the hooks second time using the boat momentum as the rod reloads with fish on, its same as doing second hook set w/casting rod- drop tip and set! Works great....
I only only use downrigger setup when fishing for lakers, or deep walleye's. I also have a pair of Off-Shore planer boards and a pair of smaller Yellow Birds. Stopped using the small Yellow Birds because big pike & muskies were hitting them. LOL! You can see the bird running off to the left in the 1st photo. Yes- for all you back trolling walleye guys, I run my birds at 3-5mph, even at night.
Have fun!
