I'm looking for people to weigh-in on using stainless steel line for muskie trolling. Do you use it and why? What do you use and do you have any suggestions for others (type of wire line, leaders, connections to reel, rod positioning, etc.)?

I have two trolling rods and two trolling line-counter reels but wasn't sure which would be the best combination with one another. Would a specific combination work best for rod/reel wear (reel guide, rod eyes)?

I own a Fenwick EliteTech Trolling Rod ETM86H-2 and a St. Croix Premier Glass Rod PGM80HM. For reels I have a Shimano TEK500LC and a Daiwa Sealine SG47-LCA.

Any comment on manipulating charts like MuskyMike's or Joe Bucher's charts for running depth using steel line?

Thanks,
J

Gregg Thomas's Early Spring Tactics video had a 5-10 minute tutorial on using wire line. You had to install a spring type thing on the rod tip and he said to always leave the clicker on the reel on. Sounded like lot more trouble then its worth so I just use a weight to get the bait down quicker.

Single strand wire is awesome. Always worth having it, it puts out a different vibe and even trolling shallow it can be the difference between a great day or no fish. PM muskrat on here, he will hook you up.

I use wire in the fall if I need to get the baits down deeper. The only thing I do differently is tie directly to the leader. Have had 0 issues using wire.

Not a bad idea to replace your tip guide with one of these:
