Subject: Lower Unit Lube





Location: Hayward WI		Is there any real difference in using some regular 80w-90 Gear Lube like the Penzoil in the yellow bottle versus one marketed specifically for marine lower units?

Location: Stevens Point, Wi.		I've used it for the past 25 years with no problems. Got the idea when I noticed the local boat dealer filling one out of a 120# drum of automotive gear oil. I'm sure a lot of dealers would tell you no, but it has the same specs as lower unit oil. I have asked several marine mechanics and no one could give me a good reason not to. Like I said, it works.

Location: Kildeer, IL		Just make sure the grease doesn't void your warranty.
