Location: Lake St Clair | Might be a dumb question but what's the best way to straighten the wire in a bucktail after it's been eaten?
I try my best but it's just not 100% straight.

Location: Detroit River | Rebuild it with a new shaft. You can buy straight wire shafts for $0.25 or less. You'll also need some heat shrink tubing if it's for a bucktail with a flashabou skirt. I have plenty of wire shafts (& heat shrink) & can rebuild it for you the next time we fish together if you like. |

Location: MN | New shaft pretty easy to do. It's with buying a few dollars worth of wire and shrink tube. That way if you have a hot bait you can fix it asap |

| I have a few that are... Well, mangled. Something weird happens to a double 10 after it gets bent up and straightened a few times: It starts working. I would straighten it with vice grips and a tiny hammer on a flat surface, and then never leave home without it.
As long as the blades still spin, it will now be one of the best lures in your box. |

Why is this? Because the bait now looks hurt or something? Please explain. |

| I don't know if there's anything inherently better about a beaten up bucktail than one out of the box, but I do know my favorite bucktails are in really rough shape. Seems like it takes forever to get a fish on a new bait sometimes, and then the more you catch, the more you catch.
It's definitely not a bad thing to have slight curves in the wire, paint missing, etc. As long as the bait doesn't roll, has good flare, and the hardware is in tact, it's "just right". |

| I wish I knew! The only thing I can think of is that maybe it gives off a different sound or has a different vibration once it's been bent and straightened. I've even experimented with brand new versions of the same exact beat-up tens that catch fish thinking it was the skirt color or blade color or something. Nope. The new ones just don't attract fish like the old ones do.
I've got one that is so bad the blades sometimes stop causing the whole lure to spin. One blade is almost worn through and makes this annoying ticking sound as you reel. Various other double 10's in the water at the same time, same color, same brand, and this one gets whacked 3:1.
I have another with 6 fish to its credit that is much the same.
I'll rebuild them when I have to, but something tells me the new versions just won;t be the same. |

| It's called confidence...Your bait get's eaten, and you have confidence in that particular bait. I have so many bucktails it's ridiculous, but I still throw the same 4-5. |

| I have a custom jr cowgirl that I had made at the Minnesota expo. The bait is utterly unrecognizable at this point! Have re-painted the blades 3 times, that bait alone is responsible for 23 muskies this year. And it seems to get better every time I bend it back |

Are you all saying they should get "bent" ?
