At last year's Cass Lake Monster Outing most of the guys participated in a meal planning deal where teams of guys cooked killer meals on assigned days. Each team was responsible for one meal and each meal was served mid-day, like at 1:00pm. It worked great; we ate like kings and we saved a lot of money. So far, I understand that Shep will treat us all to Spaghetti one evening and the lodge will treat us to a pig roast mid-week. That leaves about 4 days without plans. I understand the lodge has great food, by the way.

Here's my suggestion: We should identify those folks who want to participate in a meal planning deal like at Cass Lake, i.e., one huge meal served midday and folks can fend for themselves the rest of the time. I'll volunteer myslef and my cuz Bullhead to cook one day and so that leaves us needing about 3 teams. What do you want to do? Choose from the options below.

After we collect some input we'll discuss next steps.

Thanks!

I'm in, I'll check with my partner Mauser and we'll get back to you. Won't be easy just to run to the store for vittles and last minute items, so we gotta get it together on this trip. Should be a blast. Thanks for getting this started. m

Hey Now Ranger,
Let's do it. I'll plan to put together a steak night. (NY Strips are my best menu item)

This year, though, I will man the grill so we don't end up with burnt steaks from lighting way too much charcoal! The trick is to get a nice HOT fire but not one that isn't controllable.

Do we know if the lodge has grills? Charcoal at the store? Since we can't hardly run to town for provisions we will need to plan ahead pretty accurately...

Later,
Papa Joe

No, truth be told, I was soley responsible for the Webber inferno. Um, I usually cook with gas. PappaJoe bravely took over when the intense heat drove me inside to where the coldest beer was.

Rick, don't worry about the fish pics this year; some photos of the classic "bonfire" w/in the confines of a grill are a MUST though! Nothing like having hungry peeps standing around watching as you tell them not to worry, you are providing them a "blackened" cajun feast. Just make sure the meat isn't still flaming if you're using paper or styrofoam plates...:O

Ah, that's it. I thought folks wanted their steaks blackened. Man, you should have seen Shady's steak. It looked like a leather shoe that had been found in the ashes of a bonfire. I couldn't tell if he was kidding me or what.

Uh, Ranger? I don't think he was kidding. You may remember he shat hisself on Saturday night, just before I left for Red Wing. Perhaps the shoe...er, food, he ate earlier?

Anyway, back to the meal planning. I spoke to Mauser last night, we are in.Any suggestions on what you'd like us to bring. If Al's involved, I doubt we can top his cut-yer-own ribeyes. Let us know. I can start gathering up opossums (the other white meat!). m
