this might be a long shot but here goes... Ive got an 88 90hp mariner. I recently installed a new switch box and a regulated rectifier. After I put the regulated rectifier in the tach didn't work right. It would get to about 4200 rpm then start moving backwards. I emailed CDI and they informed me that that is a sign that the stator is on its way out. I put the old rectifier back in and the tach works just fine. I then started to have issues that pointed to a stator starting to fail. I replaced the stator with a CDI stator and then installed the CDI regulated rectifier. Once again the tach goes to 4200 RPM then goes back down. I am sure its the regulated rectifier causing this but why? Any thoughts or input would be great. I love having a tach that reads right and I love the idea of the regulated voltage goin to the battery.
