I LOVE this time of the year. Today, I see a front moving in that is forcast to be dry, so I can sit my sw wind bow stand, go bird hunting, or head to Pelican to harrass the muskies...what to do??

I think I will go sit in a tree...but the lake is freshly turned, and the skis will be moving on the reefs...threre is a grouse right outside my house in the woods...

I also have laundry to do, bills to pay, and a garage to clean![:p]

I hear you Steve. Yesterday I spent the day building our last stands, and today I am hoping to get out and chase some ski's. Cold weather really gets me pumped to chase those things with the white tail.

Jim McCullough

ps- I really got in trouble with the wife yesterday. I was supposed to be back by 1pm. I didn't make it back until 4:30. She said I was "rude and inconsiderate". Sometimes I feel like I'm being pulled apart by my outdoor addictions on one side and my wonderful family on the other. :(

Steve, you are so lucky that you have the option to do both in the same place. I spent the weekend doing bow-hunting related stuff. I won`t start hunting til late October. But unlike you, my land is nowhere near any muskie water. I`m only a few miles from the Mississippi. It`s bad enough though because the walleye fishing is also good this time of year. But not being able to serve two masters, I leave my boat home in Milwaukee so I`m not even tempted to try to do both. Back up next week to finish the job list, then back up to Phelps from the 13th-16th to give the skis another shot and to let the woods rest while the big boys start to heat up. Hopefully I`ll connect early so I can get back out for some more action before things start to freeze up. What a year that would be....a 50" ski and a 150" buck. Best part about that is that they are both very possible.
Good luck to all, Beav

The height he can get in the tree all depends on how fast purple haze was going when it hit the ski ramp.

It rained enough to put me off wanting to take a chance on a tracking job in the wet...so I did my laundry, cleaned my house, got ready to hit the road this week and enjoyed Jody's company. There is always the next day off...

But not next weekend, the Muskies Inc International Meeting, Hayward Muskies Inc tournament, Rollie and Helen's Tournament all conflict with hunting and fishing.[:((]

I know exactly what you mean. Every year my wife asks me what I want for Christmas, every year I answer the same...the month of October! It is arguably the best month of the year for our outdoor pursuits.
Steve, I had a father and son out on Pewaukee today from
6AM until 1:30PM. Neither had muskie fished before. Both had brand new St. Croix rods and Ambassedor reels. We had pea soup fog until mid morning. I had a mid 40" fish take a couple of swipes at a Funky Chicken and miss. We saw 13
follows on all different lure types without a strike! Where is the dynamite? They had enough excitement but it would have been better to get some muskie slime on them!

I wish my conflicts were hunting and fishing. For you "older" dads.... how long before Mom doesn't need permanent releif from Diaper Duty?? Seems to me that the bigger the family gets... the MORE priority it obtains in the endless battle between musky time and family time. Family always wins... so my time on the water has been scarce... to almost non-existent the past few months. No wonder I'm an internet muskie junkie.

jlong

P.S. I'm assuming in a few years my boys will be an asset towards obtaining more time on the water?? Enlighten me guys....

Jason,

I'm in the same boat as you. Or I guess I should say not in the boat like you. My two are 4 and 2 and I can't wait until they are up in the stand or in the front of the boat. That's what life is all about. :)

I'm right there with the fishing/hunting dilema. Gotta say that being about the only one on the water was nice last weekend even though I had absolutely no action. Have been getting the coyotes a howlin the last two weeks though.

I raised 5 (yes, 5) Boys, and I can tell you for a fact that when they are old enough to fish, they are old enough to trash a house thrroughly, and Mom will be BEGGING you to take them fishing. If you have a girl, play the cards right, and she will be a Muskie Angler, too.

I had three in diapers at one time for awhile. Hoo, boy......[:knockout:]

All of those tough decisions to make, hey Steve.
My decision has been made for me, I promised my PMTT partner that I would not Bow hunt until after the 13th and 14th. It's been nothing but time on the water for me! The toughest part is a new Mathews Solo Cam that I bought this spring that is just sitting down here in the basement just waiting to kill something behind the house. Can't wait until Monday night the 15th.

The only thing that I could kill behind my house is the neighbors yapping little mutt [:knockout:] (Not that the thought ever entered my mind)[:halo:]
