Does anyone know how to manually release the e-brake on a newer Ranger Trail if I have pulled the brake cable on the hitch by mistake? I have a brake hanging up and I'm wondering if this is why. Thanks in advance for any experiences you can share.

I think the e break does both sides. Most likely you have a caliper locked up. Water can get behind the piston and corrode so it won't release or compress for that matter.

Thanks Rick. Any idea if a guy can un-stick a caliper with some common tools?

pull the tire off and use a large c clamp to compress it back in, probably wont fix it but will un stick it, you have to compress on the back of the pad and the back of the caliper

Probably easier to replace the whole caliper than take the piston out and rebuild it. I don't know what brand ranger uses on their trailers. I replaced both calipers and pads on my Tuffy trailer this spring for about $150. Had the rotors turned while I was at it. You could get under there with a pry bar and try to see if the plunger is stuck just be careful not to wreck the pad. Most of these calipers are held on by 2 bolts. Mine just took a 1/2" wrench for the caliper and 5/16" for the break lines...

Thank you for the reference, Jim. I did try that and it appears I just have one caliper hanging up, which I've still been trailering on, but I can tell. I'm sure I'm wrecking something, but I guess that's what boats and trucks are for.

Solid info, Rick. Thank you! I'll get in there and dig around this weekend when I should be fishing.
