I am moving to St. Germain in the begining of June. I am staying up there most of the summer. I am need of a cell phone and was wondering if there is one cell phone service that is better than the others up there. I will be fishing all over Vilas and Oneida all summer with a few trips to the Hayward area.

Thanks for any help, I don't want to get a cell phone that doesn't work up there.

I have AT&T based in Chicago. I never have any problems in the St. Germain area.

T-Mobile, Sprint, and Nextel don't work up there at all.

Verizon works, but you have to pay roaming.

Cingular works pretty well, and you don't have to pay roaming.

I have Cingular wireless and it works great up there. I would get a nationwide plan.

Hi Mike,
My partner is in Mellen, WI, about 30 minutes from Ashland.
We should try to arrange a long weekend at Namekagon. Lots of other excellent lakes in the neighborhood, too.

We love that place, and could use some help figuring out how to catch one of those elusive monsters up there.

Later,
Papa Joe

I have noticed that cell phones only work in a few specific areas up there.

Hey Mike,

Cingular (old Cell One) has the most towers up there, as of last count. I have a summer place in Arbor Vitae, and I have never had a problem in the Vilas area getting calls in/out with Cingular. Sprint is supposed to be putting up more towers this year, but I cant confirm that.
