Anybody have an easy fix for the line guide skipping when it gets to one side. My NACL 60HS skips every time I hold the reel on it's side with the handle side up, when the line guide gets to the handle side. It will skip several times, then start its way back down the line guide track, and reverse correctly on the "non-handle" side, and then skip again once it gets to the end of the handle side.

Any thoughts, or should I just send it in?
Thanks.

Mine just started doing the same thing! I just noticed the screw had backed out for the pawl (little metal piece that follows the grooves on the line guide). Check it out, my guess is the same thing happened to you. If not, it may have worn out and it is an easy fix.

Where exactly is the "screw" for the pawl. The only screws I see have been tightened, which were all on the handle side of the reel. If I look on the underside of the reel, I see a metal "cap" (about the size of a small pea) on the line guide that doesn't appear to be adjustable. Please show me a picture of the exact "pawl screw" that needs tightening.

It is more like a "cap" as you thought (see in the middle of the pic). Go to the "Pimp my reel service" at the top of this forum and ask Pikemaster. He is the site expert on M1st site.

If it slips like that, not only is the cap loose, but the pawl is likely damaged and needs to be replaced as well.

I don't even know how to get that pawl off of there to replace it if I had to. My cap was lose and tightened it with pliers as there is no access to it or a slot for a screw driver? Weird, not sure why they would design it that way?

Also might want to check that the left side plate is closed down all the way. I had a friend just buy a new nacl and his pawl was sticking to one side...the left side or Palm plate was slightly off causing the pawl not to engage properly.

There is a slot in the cap for a screwdriver, but unfortunately you have to take off the bridge to get at it

Abu Garcia customer service is top notch. I recently bought two used NACl's on this site last winter. Both of them went down over the summer. The line guide just wouldn't cycle from side to side. It stayed stationary on one side. Both reels are probably two years old or slightly newer. I spoke with Abu customer service and they advised they will not be covered under the one year warranty. Was advised to send the reels in with a description of what is wrong. Got both reels back within a week and parts were replaced FREE of charge.

So it may be worth sending it into Abu and see what they say. I like my NACL's and Abu's outstanding customer service. But if they keep breaking down I may have to switch over to Shimano. We will see what happens I guess.

NO MATTER WHAT brand you run, proper maintenance is important. Don't clean/lube when you should.....the reel will break.

What 513 said too.

Thanks for the responses. I've contacted Abu Garcia and they were very helpful. They confirmed that there is no "screw" on the pawl, rather a silver threaded cap that you can tighten like you would a cover on a jar. If someone would have just said that...

Anyway, that appears to have fixed my "less than one year old" reel, and I would suggest anyone with a NACL check the threaded cap, and gently tighten it with a small pliers.

Thanks again.

Frazier, keep an eye on the grooves in the worm gear, if the pawl was "riding high" because the cap was loose you may have damaged the brass grooves on one end.
