Wondering if anyone has had any trouble with the komodo? Just got one this year and it had a squeak out of the box. Sounded like it was coming from one of the grips on the handle but after about 20 hours of use the squeak has turned into a grinding noise. It sounds like two plastic parts grinding. The reel sounds fine right away but the noise gets worse and worse after about 20 minutes of use. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue? I have not heard back from Okuma and I would really like to have this reel available for a trip in two weeks. Just wondering if anyone knows anything I can check or do without pulling it completely apart?

Try pulling the side plate and lightly oiling the spool shaft bearings and spool seat, and then oil up the worm gear and associated parts. Also pull the cast control knob and put a drop on the bearing.

I have one and oiled it out of the box, been a super reel.

Mine did the same thing. Started as a squeak after 4-5 half day trips and then started to grind when I was up at the Gill Ham last year. Put it away until I got back and contacted Okuma service and got it sent in. Unfortunately I'm not sure what they did but they might be able to assist over the phone. I've had good service from them but these things never seems to happen at the "right" time do they.

I have the Komodo & didn't use it much last year but have been using it a lot the last 4 trips out or so & it's been quite & smooth. Up until yesterday I was liking the Komodo more than my Toro but while pulling regular medussas I noticed that the anti-reverse is a bit weak because on every pull the spool would go forward letting out a good 1/2" of line. I'm a little concerned about that.
