I just sold my first boat, it felt good but it will always have a special place in my heart. She was a 16 foot 1981 starcraft with a 40 Evinrude tiller. A real clunker but she floated and my buick would pull it.

What was your first boat? Any interesting/weird stories about your first vessel?

My first boat was a late 60's starcraft 14ft v-bottom boat with wood bench seats and a 9.5hp Johnson. I bought it from my neighbor with my paper route money. The boat primarily sat and was used once a year on a camping trip to oard lake. Many of the neighbors wanted it but he never wanted to sell it. One day I just threw it out there and he shot me a price. I had the money and told him he would have it tomorrow.

It sat outside, to protect the seats I tied it to the trailer upside down when not in use. High winds tore of the tie strap and flung the boat into the house, luckily no damage.

In college, I put my bed up on blocks to store the motor, gas tank, trolling motor and battery.

I refinished the seats more times than I could remember. Fishing hotspots had just come out with those little area books(dating myself) armed with a full set made many trips to little lakes all over southeast Wisconsin. Even took it to bigger lakes lime castle rock and petenwell. Even repainted and rewired the trailer. The boat never planed, not even with just me and no gear but I liked it. Took it to college and fished all those lakes near Carbondale. I ended up selling it during a less than pleasant marriage tired of seeing it sit and die a dormant death in a barn.

As soon as my divorce was settled I bought my second boat, a 16ft misty river with a 60merc and a pinpoint trolling motor. I still own my 3rd and 4th boats.

My first was a 16' Lund Laker with a 25 hp Evinrude. Upgraded to a 30 hp Johnson, and eventually a 50 hp merc. Still have it and it's used for duck hunting now. Factory tan/sand color. Running an 18' Ranger with a 150 Mariner now.

My first boat was a 12 foot jon boat, with a foot control motor up front. A 9.9 Evinrude on the back.
I went on my first trip, with a buddy, in 1977, to Northern Wisconsin.
I got 5 muskies that week.

Some of my best fishin memories happened in that boat. bought 16' tiller at 22. Now have '02 tracker pro v 17. Saven for next. Will be 20' glass tiller.

First boat was a 17ft Grumman flat back canoe w/ 45# thrust Minn Kota. I'm actually digging her out of the backyard tomorrow to do a river float with an old college buddy. Going to be a fun trip down Nostalgia Lane.

Currently still have my first boat and will, more than likely, keep it forever. 12ft Alumacraft with a 6hp Evinrude (78) that starts like a champ and moves me from spot to spot with ease! I can lift it off the trailer and move it on my own and get it off and on the trailer no problem. (That trailer, that's another story - such a pile...actually going to rewire it next week). Great boat for little rivers and lakes!

My dad got rid of his 14ft alumacraft when I started middle school...he regrets it to this day. I'm going to learn from that. I'll be keeping this boat for my lifetime.

I had a 12' Mirrocraft wide body with a 4 hp 1942 Elgin with a windup rope pull and would sputter when running. I also had grabbed 2 office chairs that they thru away at work and mounted them on a couple of casting platforms. I did upgrade to a 5 hp Evinrude skiffboat outboard with a rope recoil that my neighbor sold me and a 30lb thrust minkota troller. I fished out of that for 3 years before updating to what I have now. Good boat but windy days it would bob like a cork.
Wow those were the day's.......

My first boat was a 1987 Ranger 1600 Vlll that had a broken keel and was in rough shape when my dad brought it home when I was 15. We spent all summer working on it with it turned upside down in the garage. We tore the trailer all apart and sandblasted and powder coated it. We re-did everything on that little boat and my brother and I caught lots or fish out of it.

Growing up I got to use my dad's boats (16' lund tiller, 17' crestliner sporthawk), plus ride in his friends boats. After college I came across my dream aluminum rig at a price where I could still flip it now and profit.

2004 Crestliner Fish Hawk 1850 DC
2005 Honda 135

Fiance dubbed it the SS Ring Fund because it definitely put things off for a couple years lol

I'm 6'2" and not very "flexible" anymore. My buddy took me out fishing in his Grumman square-stern once; after a day in that I felt like I had been run over by a Mack truck! I told him to melt it down and make a garbage can out of it instead...

first boat traded a snowmobile i recovered in our lake that was sunk and left by owner/insurance company and was a 14' alumacraft with a small outboard.

then:
- war eagle duck boat with go devil
- Champion Elite
- Boston Whaler Dauntless
- Ranger 200C
- Tuffy Esox Magnum
- Ranger 690

if i had a garage/shop that would fit all of them i'd take every single one back again ... each had a strength/weakness but were great to own and easy to sell when the time came.

Grew up using my dads 17' Lund trihull fiberglass 70 hp. Went in on a 17' warrior when I was 14 or so. He paid me off. And my first boat is a 2090 warrior with 200 hp went through and rebuilt it and love it just need a newer one cause I have a problem with older stuff. But #*^@ when fishing I can't imagine a different boat doing that well in the waves.

I have had lots...lots of boats. My first was a wooden 12' rowboat. I actually guided a couple seasons out of a 14' Alumacraft. Tuffy hired me in 1976. Skeeter hired me in 1991. I own a X170T Tuffy now as my personal boat, and OFM should own a Lund before too long.

I'd love to run a Bass Cat some day as a Bass Boat specialty rig. Beautiful ride.

My very first rig ever was a 2000 Ranger R71 with single console and a 125 hp Merc.
It was equipped with a Garmin GPS (5" black and white) on the bow and console.
Bought it brand spanking new from a place near Detroit Michigan (can't remember where).
Terrific starter boat but was very quickly sold and replaced by a new Ranger 518....then a 520.....and then the best of all....my current Ranger 620.
Good boats all.

Bought my first boat about six years out of college. An '88 Lund Pro V 1770 tiller, with a 60 horse Johnson. Ten years later, I bought a '98 Pro V 1775 tiller, with a 70 horse Suzuki four stroke. Current boat is a '08 Lund Pro Guide 1825 tiller, with a 90 horse Merc. If you can't tell, I got a thing for tillers.

I grew up "borrowing" my dads boats from the Lund Renegade to the Smoker Craft Milentia.
Once I graduated from college I purchased the Smokercraft 161 Milentia since Dad didn't go fishing without me anymore.
5 years later I graduated to a Ranger 619 DVS and don't plan on changing that anytime soon.

Electronics have really changed overtime as well... From the old flasher to a Eagle 2D to a Humminbird 597 to my current HDS's and LCX.

14 ft Alumacraft 15hp Johnson was the boat I grew up with. Started driving it around the lake when I was about 9-10. Finally was old enough and my dad would let me take it anywhere on the lake. That's how I became such a big fisherman. No brothers or sisters so fishing was my way of burning time.

Just recently purchased a 18.5 ft Skeeter with a 150 Yamaha vmax. The old boat will always hold a place in my heart but it isn't hard to love the new boat either.

A Lund 14-S with an evinrude 18horse. My dad and I put a bowmount trolling motor up front and a casting deck. Used to fish bass every morning during the summer until I found muskies.

I bought my first boat 2 weeks after graduating high school....talk about not over extending your credit early in life. It was a Crestliner 1850 Fishhawk with a 150 optimax on it....3 years later I sold it and bought my current boat a 08 Ranger 188VX. Love the bass boat style for muskies, but there are times I still wish I had a deep V.

I grew up with a hand-me-down 14ft Mirrocraft (1969 hull) with a 10hp Johnson Sea-Horse. Passed down from grandpa to dad, and then to me. I beat the hell out of that thing but it trained me well. I was sad to see that piece of history go.

While in college I then sold it in order to buy a 1979 Lund Guide Special 315... for only $900. It was a fixer-upper that took me 6 months to restore. I still have it and it's the best $900 I've ever spent, especially being a poor college kid at the time in 2007.... Along with that I have a 14ft Jon Boat full of custom mods equipped with a 15hp Evinrude that I acquired and fixed to like-new status in 2013. Both are old, but fish like new and I treat them like babies so annual maintenance and upkeep is very very minimal and low. Then recently I spoiled myself with a Ranger 681VS with a 115 Evinrude.

I have all 3 boats, thankfully have garage storage space for all 3, and don't see myself needing another boat for the next several years to come. I love them all.
